Pink Tutu Time Travel: Post #2649 - 1881: A September Soirée

Hello, dear fellow twirlers and lovers of the beautiful! Welcome to my pink-tutu-clad travels back through time! Today, we're venturing into the 9th of September 1881. It's a blustery, crisp autumn day here in Derbyshire, perfect for putting on my favourite blush pink tutu and packing Magic Meg for our latest adventure!

As you all know, my trusty shire horse, Magic Meg - with her sparkling pink coat and golden hooves - has a way of whisking me away to times gone by. This month, I found myself in London, and my backpack is brimming with delightful stories about the vibrant ballet world in 1881.

London's Dancing Scene: A Grand Evening

Now, picture this - it's the Theatre Royal Drury Lane in London. Imagine the twinkling gaslights illuminating the majestic architecture of the theatre, and the murmur of excitement as the fashionable audience takes their seats. This was where the highlight of my September journey took place – the world premiere of "The Magic Flute" ballet, based on Mozart's famous opera!

You wouldn't believe the dazzling costumes - a bevy of tulle, vibrant colours, and glittering jewels. They all swirled around in this whimsical production about a Prince's journey to save his love, Papagena, from the evil Queen of the Night. Oh, how I wished I had been there!

The Great Marie Taglioni: An Iconic Ballerina

London was buzzing with talk of Marie Taglioni - the queen of Romantic ballet! This renowned dancer was at the peak of her career, captivating audiences with her lightness, grace and her innovative leaps. She was truly an icon of her era and she left an indelible mark on the world of ballet! It's no wonder I’ve added a charming sketch of her, from an 1881 magazine, to my collection.

The Ballroom at the Royal Opera House

Of course, my pink-tutu-loving heart just had to visit the Royal Opera House! Now, you wouldn't believe the stunning ballet fashion I found here. Elegant satin slippers, silk tutus with layers upon layers of tulle, and oh-those graceful dancing dresses with lace and embroidery. Just looking at them is a time travel experience!

* A Delightful Find: Madame Carlotta Grisi*

In the annals of ballet, I discovered a treasure: the legendary Italian ballerina, Madame Carlotta Grisi. She had just performed a breathtaking "Giselle" in the Royal Opera House! Her captivating dance and captivating personality inspired dancers throughout the globe. She even caught the attention of the world-famous artist, Edgar Degas! How lovely. I simply must create a homage to this remarkable ballerina!

Back To The Present

And just like that, I’m back in Derbyshire, but my mind is swirling with inspiration! You see, my love for the past inspires my creations for my dance academy. Oh, wouldn’t you know it – I’m creating a new ballet choreography inspired by "The Magic Flute". The music is so delightful and the storyline makes for such magical poses.

So dear readers, remember: even with all the progress of the present, the spirit of the ballet is eternal. And I, for one, can't wait for my next ballet time travel escapade!
