Hello lovelies! It's Emma here, back from another delightful jaunt through time. This month, I found myself twirling in the captivating world of 1881! Did you know 10th October was a Monday that year? It feels almost like another era, doesn't it?
This time, I decided to journey back with my gorgeous, sparkly pink shire horse, Magic Meg. With her white mane and tail billowing in the breeze, we set off on a whimsical ride through the annals of ballet history. As always, my pink tutu billowed in the wind as I trotted alongside her, my trusty leather rucksack secured to my back, ready to collect the most magical memories and enchanting stories.
It was a crisp autumn day, and I found myself in London, buzzing with a unique charm, so unlike the modern day bustle we know today. The cobblestone streets echoed with horse-drawn carriages and the sound of gentlemen's polished boots clinking against the pavement. The air hummed with excitement as I watched elegantly dressed women flitting in and out of chic boutiques. It felt as though I had stepped straight into a scene from a Jane Austen novel, except I was a ballet-loving time traveler, of course!
Oh, my darlings, I just have to tell you about my ballet adventure this month! I discovered the incredible story of the famous prima ballerina, Marie Taglioni. She was considered the embodiment of romantic ballet. Imagine! Ballet in a horse-drawn carriage?! You see, my dearest readers, Marie wasn't just known for her grace on stage, but also for her unique method of travelling to the theatre. It seems she had her own special, personalised horse-drawn carriage decorated with flowers and silks! Imagine how stunning it must have been! And what an inspiring story for us, especially when it comes to getting ready for a show! It certainly beats the struggle with finding a parking space nowadays!
Speaking of shows, there was so much ballet happening around the world! In St Petersburg, the legendary Marius Petipa, a genius of choreography, was working on a ballet called “The Pharaoh's Daughter”. He was known for his romantic ballets with extravagant sets and stunning costumes. It just makes you yearn for the era, don't you think? Just picturing those costumes makes me want to leap out and dance! And, if you’re reading this and fancy a trip yourself, I recommend getting those dancing shoes polished and your pink tutu prepped, for they are definitely having a moment in 1881!
As the sun started its descent, I hopped on board Magic Meg for our journey back to my little home in Derbyshire. The ride back through time was pure enchantment, like something out of a ballet. The air shimmered and danced around us, the horses hooves softly tapping on the cobblestones. And as I slipped back into my own time, I realised that, despite the differences in fashion and transportation, ballet remains a constant - an expression of joy, beauty, and passion. And who better to explore it than us tutu-wearing time travellers, ready to sprinkle our love for dance and fashion all over the world?
Stay fabulous, my lovelies, and remember, every day is a new chance to dance with life and celebrate the magical world of ballet. 🩰✨
