Hello, darlings! Emma here, your favourite pink-tutu-wearing time-travelling ballerina. August is my favourite month! It's practically bursting with vibrant, summery colours, and it reminds me of all those gorgeous tutus, perfect for twirling in the sunshine!
This month, I'm whisking you all back to August 1885, a time when the world of ballet was abuzz with excitement. Let me tell you, it's just not the same these days. We had a rather busy schedule, Magic Meg and I! (Speaking of, she is just stunning this month, decked out in a pink, sparkling shimmery harness - the golden hooves make her glow!)
A Grand Night at the Opera
First stop: the grand Palais Garnier in Paris, home to the Opéra de Paris! Imagine the scene: elegant chandeliers shimmering above, opulent velvet seating, and a flurry of the most beautifully dressed people in all of Europe.
Tonight, we weren't there for a ballet, but a performance of Carmen! Oh, you just wouldn't believe it, darlings! It was just scandalous, full of passionate singing and dramatic storylines. I almost felt compelled to slip onto the stage and join the chorus. I can just picture myself in a luscious burgundy satin dress with a sweeping skirt, oh, to move to that music!
And let's not forget about the ballet. It's hard to resist a little twirl when you see the magnificent scenery and gorgeous dancers. I swear, it makes even the most staid of spectators feel like a child, dancing under the stars!
Fashion Forward in Moscow
Now, let me tell you about my journey to Moscow! I’d read all about the Bolshoi Theatre - a true ballet mecca, bursting with talent and glamour! You have to believe me when I say the Bolshoi truly took my breath away.
Oh, I just couldn't resist shopping! They have the most magnificent silk and lace in Moscow. I couldn't help but grab a gorgeous length of turquoise blue silk and a small lace fan for my rucksack - a little bit of Russian history to keep in my ballet treasure chest.
Imagine me, darlings, swanning about in a vintage tutu, feeling like I belong on a stage bathed in the spotlight, with a little pink velvet opera purse and my lace fan, adding a touch of Parisian chic. It was a ballerina’s dream!
Ballet Delights at the St. Petersburg Imperial Theatres
No trip to Russia is complete without a visit to St. Petersburg. We weren't just there for the stunning architecture and majestic buildings, although let me tell you, it's the most incredible place. We were on a quest for the most remarkable ballerinas!
I was simply gobsmacked by the St. Petersburg Imperial Theatres. They truly set the standard for theatre design and the quality of their performances, particularly in ballet!
We were lucky enough to catch a performance by the Mariinsky Theatre, who were renowned for their incredible technique. Even Magic Meg was enchanted by the dancers! I have to tell you, the costumes were stunning – lavish gowns with intricate details, sparkling embellishments, and a whirlwind of bright, vibrant colors! They were even more enchanting than any I'd ever seen in my travels.
But you know me, darling! It wouldn't be a true time-travel adventure without some backstage shenanigans. After the performance, I snuck backstage and bumped into none other than Mathilde Kschessinska! Can you imagine? The woman herself!
I just had to say a proper “hello” and thank her for the incredible performance! I had to tell her how much her dazzling work inspires me! I couldn't resist a peek inside her dressing room too - so much sparkly loveliness!
Oh, and did you know, darling, she is so lovely! She gave me her personal ballet slippers and a gorgeous costume for my rucksack! And can you believe it, even a beautiful pair of handmade earrings for myself!
Pink Tutu Time Travel Tips
So, my dears, you know my rule: no time-travelling ballerina can ever go out in the world without a little pink magic in her pocket!
Don't forget your Pink Tutu Essentials:
A perfectly pink tutu: Obviously, my dears, the most essential item in your wardrobe, regardless of where you're heading, is your tutu! You know you just look stunning in pink!
A lovely pair of pink ballet shoes: The ballet shoes have been through countless rehearsals and countless time-travelling escapades with me, but they still look absolutely lovely!
A glamorous pair of ballet-inspired earrings: They add a touch of elegance and make you feel like a real-life princess.
A magical pink lipstick: Because, who can resist a touch of sparkle and charm? And the secret to pink tutu travel is always confidence!
And Remember:
- Time travel isn't always a walk in the park. I'm telling you! Just be prepared for whatever happens.
- Magic Meg loves the odd treat too. She is my little pink-tutu-loving partner in time!
Remember, darling, if you want to inspire others, it all starts with embracing your true self. Put on that gorgeous pink tutu, go to the ballet, be confident, be bold, be you, and most importantly, let your passion sparkle like magic Meg's hooves!
Until next month, my dears. Happy twirling!
