Pink Tutu Time Travel Blog: Post #2697 - September 9th, 1885: A Whirlwind in Paris!

Hello darlings! It's Emma here, your friendly neighbourhood pink tutu-wearing time traveller, and welcome back to my blog! This month, we're whisking ourselves back to the year 1885, specifically to the 9th of September! I know what you're thinking, “Emma, why this particular date?!” Well, let me tell you, this day was bursting with balletic brilliance!

First things first, let's talk about Magic Meg, my fabulous, sparkling shire horse with a mane and tail like spun moonlight! Oh, the glamour! This girl makes even the most bumpy time travel journeys a total delight. She even has her own pink saddle pad, of course! (Don’t tell my accountant – she isn’t very keen on my extravagant time travel budget, but when you’ve got a time travelling horse
well, let’s just say I spend my tutu earnings wisely!)

Anyway, this time around, Meg whisked me off to Paris – what else?! – a city always on the cutting edge of fashion and a hotbed of dance, particularly ballet! Just thinking about those incredible performances at the OpĂ©ra Garnier sets my heart aflutter! So, what was going on in the world of ballet back in 1885? Buckle your shoestrings and let's go on a little Parisian adventure, shall we?

The Parisian scene was vibrant and exciting! This was the time of The French School of Ballet, with ballerinas captivating audiences with their ethereal grace and stunning technique. Oh, those elegant leaps, those flawless fouettĂ© turns, and the pure artistry! I always try and picture it in my mind – how utterly thrilling it must have been! I'm practically dancing with joy just thinking about it!

And the tutu designs! You can bet your bottom dollar, the Parisian ladies of the ballet world knew their way around a tulle masterpiece. These weren’t just your everyday fluffy pink tutus, either. I’m talking grand, elaborate designs, maybe a touch more opulent than today’s minimalist ones. Maybe just a bit! Just picture it: swirling, sparkling skirts, possibly layered, adorned with flowers, feathers, maybe even ribbons of silk! Now THAT’s the ballet attire that makes my little heart skip a beat!

The Opéra Garnier was the grand centrepiece of Paris ballet during this period. Talk about dramatic architecture! All that marble and gold leaf! Truly a masterpiece of design, reflecting the artistic opulence of the era. I spent hours exploring every nook and cranny, picking up stories whispered on the marble staircases and from within those velvet-lined opera boxes. I even found a tiny pearl pin tucked away in a corner - quite the souvenir for my little ballet-treasured collection back in my Derbyshire cottage!

One of my biggest discoveries this time, though, was about Jules Perrot, the legendary choreographer who introduced innovative techniques to ballet. Imagine! He created choreography that fused theatrical drama with elegance! Talk about a revolutionary dancer – the man basically put ballet onto the international map! If that doesn't sound exciting to you, I don't know what does!

It's moments like these that make time travel worth it. Learning from the pioneers who built the foundations of the beautiful art form I love. Ballet is a constant evolution, but it’s moments like these, those whispers of history, that make the evolution so captivating! I even spent an evening in the charming Cafe de la Paix, a favourite of many ballet stars. It was there, tucked away with a cup of rich, aromatic coffee, I discovered an original pamphlet promoting a ballet season. It featured gorgeous line drawings of dancers in shimmering tutus, just like the ones we see today. That's a story I’m sure you’ll all enjoy, and a memento I’ll treasure in my little leather rucksack for my next blog!

But as the evening wound down, and the street lamps cast their warm glow on the cobblestones, I felt a familiar pull. It was time to head home! This time travel thing, darling, it's truly exhilarating! Every trip is a journey through a ballet wonderland and an adventure in itself! And you can bet, this isn't the last you've heard of my pink-tutu escapades. I’ve got more adventures up my sleeve, more history to uncover and a million tutus waiting to be danced in! So stay tuned!

Until next time, happy pirouettes and may your day be filled with sunshine, sparkling tutus, and the thrill of ballet!

Love, Emma
