Oh my dears! I've had the most divine time travelling back to 1887. As always, it began with my beautiful Meg, my pink sparkling Shire horse, pawing the ground with her golden hooves. I just love how she seems to know exactly where we need to go. Today was Paris, oh la la, and what a city it was, so elegant and buzzing with energy.
You wouldn't believe the extravagant hats, the feather boas and the billowing skirts. I swear, the Parisian ladies looked like walking flowers. My pink tutu was quite the statement amidst all the bustle, but hey, that's what I'm here for.
I'm not going to lie, I almost got lost in the shops, it was simply heaven for a tutu-loving girl like me. You just wouldn't believe the glorious millinery shops. I just had to purchase a wide brimmed, blush-pink feathered hat, which now sits proudly in my ballet collection. It's such a decadent treat to hold these pieces of the past, and imagine the hands that have touched them before me.
My true purpose was, of course, the Paris Opera Ballet. I love travelling to different eras and watching the evolution of ballet. It is fascinating how techniques, steps and styles change through time, but it's wonderful to see that the passion for this beautiful art form remains so strong.
Tonight I went to see La Bayadère by Marius Petipa, oh what a spectacular, romantic masterpiece it is! I do adore this story of Nikiya the beautiful temple dancer, and the captivating, yet forbidden, love between her and the warrior Solor. And can I just say, the costumes were divine. They had the most exquisite layering of silk and jewels. The whole performance just made me swoon.
In the theatre, the audience were enthralled and utterly swept away by the sheer power of the story and the ballet. They clapped and cheered, tears even welled up in a few of their eyes, they were completely captivated. It felt like being in a magical realm where everyone understood the power of ballet, of graceful movements and emotive gestures. It just filled me with such a profound joy and peace.
I have to admit, it made me reflect a little on the ballet world today. There seems to be so much talk about "modern ballet", breaking the mould and new interpretations. But the beauty of the classic ballets like La Bayadère will always resonate, it's like a time-capsule that tells a story that transcends eras. It just goes to show that even the most classic and beautiful of art forms are in constant evolution, but they retain that core spirit that resonates with our hearts, don't you agree?
While I do embrace the modern ballet world and enjoy experimenting with fashion trends in balletwear, it's moments like these, sitting in a packed opera house, watching a beautiful story come alive, that remind me that ballet holds such a deep, ancient, timeless beauty. It reminds me why I wear my pink tutu every day, to share that joy and remind the world just how magical this artform truly is!
Oh, I mustn't forget to mention my other little finds from my journey today! In my leather rucksack I have collected a beautiful embroidered handkerchief ( I'm sure you will be jealous!), and a pamphlet with sketches of the costumes worn by the ballet dancers!
Do come and see my full collection, dear reader! And perhaps be inspired by the pink tutu to dance, move and share your joy with the world.
Until next time,
