Hello my lovelies! It's Emma here, your favourite pink-tutu-clad time traveller, back with another exciting adventure from the archives of ballet history! This month, we're waltzing our way back to February 2nd, 1890, a date brimming with ballet brilliance, fashion trends, and a touch of historical charm!
As always, I'm riding my trusty steed, Magic Meg, the most fabulous pink sparkling Shire horse you've ever seen. Her golden hooves, flowing white mane and tail β she's a sight to behold, even in a horse-drawn carriage! We've just galloped into the bustling streets of London, ready to delve into the ballet world of the late Victorian era.
Firstly, the must-see performance this month is "La Source" at the Alhambra Theatre in London! This gorgeous ballet is a grand spectacle featuring elaborate costumes and captivating choreography. My darling, itβs so beautifully romantic β a dream of the Orient! If you're lucky, you might even catch the celebrated ballerina, Leonie, in her stunning lead role! Leonie is the epitome of graceful elegance β an absolute legend!
But of course, what's a time-travelling adventure without a little fashion inspiration? The 1890s saw an influx of new, more romantic silhouettes for the ballerinas. Think flowing chiffon tutus and intricate lace trimmings. It's all about the airy, ethereal elegance β perfect for any aspiring pink-tutu enthusiast! As I wander through the theatre's grand foyer, I'm already dreaming up new ways to incorporate this romantic style into my own wardrobe!
Oh, and speaking of wardrobes β remember my beloved leather rucksack? I just collected the most fascinating tidbit! Did you know the iconic ballerina slippers weren't even commonplace in this era? They used soft leather slippers instead β imagine that! It's such a curious thought. I can't help but think how different ballet footwear might have evolved if these comfy, practical slippers were still the norm today.
However, despite my slight love for soft, leather footwear, it's the pointe shoes we all know and love that truly embody the grace and beauty of classical ballet. The dancers of 1890 had already embraced this beautiful and challenging footwear, bringing forth an unmatched athleticism to the art form.
I wouldn't be true to my pink-tutu-wearing heart if I didn't sneak in a peek at the latest dance trends! The Waltz is in full swing, along with the graceful Viennese waltz, adding an element of grandeur and elegance to ballroom dances and stage performances alike.
Before I hop on Magic Meg and take off to another adventure, I just had to mention the growing popularity of ballet in Europe. Paris, Berlin, Milan - you name it, the world's embracing ballet! My goal is to inspire even more pink tutu love in all those amazing cities. Who knows, maybe one day, I'll even travel through time and see a ballet school full of eager little ballerina students twirling away in pink tutus, just like my darling followers!
Donβt forget to subscribe to my blog and stay tuned for my next fabulous time-travelling ballet adventure! Until then, keep dancing and spread that pink tutu love wherever you go!
Yours in pink, Emma x
