Hello my dearest tutu-loving friends! It’s Emma here, back from another dazzling time-hopping adventure with my magnificent, pink-sparkling shire horse, Magic Meg. This month, we journeyed to 1890, right into the heart of the Belle Époque, a time bursting with creativity, culture and, of course, the most fabulous fashions!
You know how much I adore pink and all things tutu, so you can imagine how my heart skipped a beat as I arrived in Paris, a city positively pulsing with the energy of a ballet. As Meg gently clip-clopped through the cobbled streets, I took it all in – the horse-drawn carriages, the elegant ladies in their billowing skirts and jaunty hats, and the vibrant, joyous atmosphere everywhere!
Speaking of fashion, I absolutely fell in love with the Parisian ballet costumes of the era. Imagine – delicate tutus in the most glorious shades of lavender, peach and baby blue, with shimmering sequins and graceful, billowing sleeves! I can't wait to try these out myself on our next dance performance – wouldn't it be divine to waltz around in a 19th-century Parisian ballet? I'm envisioning myself dancing with the great stars of the era – Anna Pavlova, Isadora Duncan, perhaps even Vaslav Nijinsky!
Of course, no ballet adventure is complete without visiting the theatre! In Paris, the Opéra Garnier was THE place to be for a grand ballet evening. Can you imagine, ladies and gentlemen in full evening wear, enjoying ballets like "Giselle" or "La Sylphide" – pure, elegant artistry! I have a feeling I could spend days and days simply wandering around this incredible building, absorbing the history and the magic.
Did you know that this very day in 1890, the famous Russian ballerina, Anna Pavlova, was performing in St. Petersburg? Now, THAT is a piece of ballet history worth celebrating! She was only 18 years old, just starting her brilliant career. Can you imagine being a part of that magical moment – seeing her grace and strength on stage, knowing she would go on to become one of the most renowned dancers in the world? I just feel giddy thinking about it!
I managed to collect a little treasure from this trip – a beautifully hand-painted fan, delicate and graceful, adorned with little dancers twirling in shimmering gowns. It now takes pride of place in my ballet memorabilia collection – a constant reminder of the fascinating, elegant world of ballet back in the 1890s.
Now, speaking of the future, we have so much to look forward to in the world of ballet. In a few months, a new ballet is opening at the Royal Opera House, “La Bayadère”, featuring the beautiful choreography of Marius Petipa. It promises to be a visual feast, a real dance extravaganza. I can’t wait to slip on my pink tutu and see this beautiful, inspiring piece.
And who knows, perhaps one day we'll even be able to travel through time together! I imagine we’ll all be dressed in gorgeous tutus of every hue, skipping through history with our ballet shoes tapping a merry rhythm to the tune of a bygone era. Now that's a thought worth twirling over!
So, until next time my dearest ballet lovers, let’s dance with joy, grace and a sprinkle of pink! Keep twirling!
Emma
