Oh darlings, I do hope you’re all enjoying the glorious sunshine! I know I am, because it’s such a lovely day for twirling, especially when I’m adorned in a brand-new, absolutely darling pink tulle tutu, which I simply had to get after last month's ballet performance. I have a feeling it will be perfect for my time travels this month, don't you think? It's so very 1891 - frills, flounces and a delicate blush. Oh, the excitement!
Speaking of excitement, I am positively bursting with anticipation for my trip this month - it's 7th of July, 1891, and I'm on my way to Vienna, Austria! Fancy that! Imagine: grand imperial palaces, music swirling like the Danube and...the ballet! Now that's the stuff of dreams!
Just think, the esteemed Vienna State Opera House was buzzing with activity back then. Could you even imagine being part of such a spectacular spectacle? Oh, how I long to step back into such a magical world and join those elegant, graceful dancers! They danced before royalty and high society! I wonder what was being performed this evening. It would be an honour to share this extraordinary experience.
My good steed, the magical, shimmering pink Shire horse Meg - a perfect match for my tutu! - is snorting impatiently. She’s just itching to set off on our exciting journey. Just one glance at her glorious, shimmering, white tail and gold-hued hooves and I feel like a princess in a fairytale.
This month, we’re diving straight into the royal world of Austrian ballet. Vienna was known for its exquisite waltzes and courtly traditions - it must have been truly glamorous! Just picture it: gilded rooms, swirling gowns, sparkling jewels and - of course! - graceful ballerinas twirling in their beautiful tutus!
Imagine my excitement as we travel back in time! Magic Meg, ever the faithful companion, will take us on an enchanting journey to Vienna - I already have my fancy camera at the ready. She really is my pink-tutu-powered time-travel fairy godmother.
It's also just a quick hop over to Paris for some ballet shopping, a few new pairs of pointe shoes, and some gorgeous silk ribbons for my next bespoke tutu! Parisian fashions are truly inspiring. We're definitely stopping at "Le Louvre," *the ultimate department store at the time, famous for its glamorous clientele and high-class items. *What would any self-respecting ballet enthusiast be without some shopping?!
Remember, I collect stories and souvenirs, as well as little trinkets of ballet ephemera, in my trusty leather rucksack, so be sure to check in for my latest finds in my next blog post! Oh, I have so much to share with you - from a secret vintage ballet shoe from Paris to the newest trend in pointe shoes, it will be pure delight.
But that’s not all! Did you know Emma Livry, the Grande Dame of ballet back then, was known for her impeccable artistry and elegant carriage? Oh, and did I tell you that in 1891, she was in La Bayadère at La Scala, in Milan! What an amazing experience, I bet!
This trip will be bursting with the stories and adventures I adore – a magical blend of history, beauty, and of course, the divine artistry of ballet.
Let me tell you all about it very soon! Be sure to join me on my website www.pink-tutu.com at the beginning of August for my latest adventures and musings on all things ballet! I will keep my magical pink tutu ready for another exhilarating adventure! Until then, my dears, let's twirl our way to happy, colourful and ballet-filled days.
XOXO,
Emma
PS If you have a pink tutu or dream of twirling in one, let me know! Together we can make the world a more colourful and sparkly place! Happy dancing!
