Hello darling ballet bunnies! Itās Emma here, your resident pink tutu time traveller! Welcome to my monthly dose of ballet magic, direct from www.pink-tutu.com, where we celebrate all things ballet! This month, weāre waltzing back to 3rd March 1903, and let me tell you, it was a doozy!
Riding through the Time Tunnel with Magic Meg
Now, if you're reading this from Derbyshire, where I'm from, you might just recognise a certain sparkling, pink shire horse called Magic Meg. Her golden hooves, snowy white mane, and glittering pink coat make her a sight to behold! Today, Meg galloped us through the time tunnel to 1903 London, ready for a grand ballet adventure. (Don't worry, dear readers, my pink tutu travels with me ā always, naturally.)
A London Ballet Blitz!
Arriving in London, it felt like a world away from today. No roaring motors or sky-piercing buildings here. We landed amongst horse-drawn carriages and charming brick buildings. Oh, the smell of coal smoke and freshly baked bread!
Straight to the grand theatre we went, my leather rucksack full of eager anticipation. Itās the 1903 season at the Royal Opera House, and itās chock-full of performances. This month, we were treated to:
- āThe Ballet of the Roseā: Imagine, a story where a Rose Prince fights for his love, chasing after a captivating, dainty Rose Princess. Such romance! My pink tutu just positively swooned!
- "Giselle," the tragic yet beautiful love story: This time-honored ballet captivated audiences even then. The ballet of betrayal, sorrow, and forgiveness was something quite magical to experience, even without a pink tutu!
- A revival of "CoppƩlia," a quirky, hilarious, and playful ballet! I found myself giggling with the rest of the audience! (Maybe a tiny bit of my own, ahem, pink tutu glee seeped through.)
1903 Fashion: A Fashion Feast for the Eyes!
Oh, the dresses! Such elegance and grace. So much lace, and beautiful colours, and a flurry of feathered bonnets, like pretty little birds! It reminded me, my darlings, we have to have pink tutu fashion inspiration for you this month! Here are a few ideas, directly from my 1903 adventure!
- A flowy, pastel pink skirt paired with a lacy top is utterly feminine, a touch reminiscent of the ballerina dancers from "The Ballet of the Rose".
- A pink ribbon woven into a delicate updo: Think ballerina hair, but add a touch of sweet, dainty beauty.
Embrace lace! This is a timeless trend, and the more lacy, the better! This adds such feminine charm! A vintage, lacy scarf draped over a delicate blouse? Oh yes please!
Shopping Time!: 1903 Vintage Finds!
No adventure is complete without a spot of vintage shopping, and believe me, the shops of London had me gasping with delight! From charming tea shops full of delicious biscuits, to lace shops, where you could be lost for hours just staring at the beautiful fabric, to bookstores with towering shelves overflowing with beautifully illustrated fairytales... my heart nearly exploded with glee.
What's Next? My Ballet Time Travel Diary!
So, whatās next on my time-traveling adventures? I can't tell you that just yet, darlings, because that would spoil the fun. But trust me, itās going to be full of sparkle, tutus, and hopefully, you will join me in wearing one pink tutu with pride for next monthās post!
Oh! Before I sign off, a small reminder: ballet doesnāt just live on a stage, my loves! Get your friends together for a ballet class! Spread the magic of pink tutus and ballet wherever you go, whether it's on the dance floor, or even just going about your day. Every movement can be a dance, donāt you think?
Until next month, love, Emma,
Your time-traveling ballerina!
