Hello, my darling darlings! Emma here, your resident pink tutu-clad time traveller, and welcome back to Pink-Tutu.com, where ballet dreams become reality, one twirl at a time!
This month, my oh-my, it's a real doozy! I'm hopping on Magic Meg, my fabulous pink shimmering Shire horse with the golden hooves, and heading right back to 1903, April 4th, to witness the true glory of Victorian dance. Oh, the sheer spectacle, the artistry, the romance! Prepare yourselves, because we're diving into a world where waltzing was the way to go, where tutus were just as dazzling, and where ballet was sweeping the nation!
A Glimpse into Victorian Ballet: A History of Delights!
Now, before we journey into this vibrant time period, let's delve into some of the enchanting ballet highlights of 1903. You see, ballet back then was not confined to the grand stages like we know today. The waltz was everywhere. In drawing rooms, at grand balls, at society events - even at the Royal Albert Hall in London. It was practically the dance for high society!
Oh, and can you imagine - they had this magical thing called a 'Ballroom Floor Show', a ballet production that would come to your home. Honestly, imagine, imagine! You invite friends and family over, everyone's dressed to the nines in their very best gowns and tuxedos, and then BAM a whole ballet troupe appears! What utter dreamland!
Travelling Back in Time: Magic Meg & a Pink Tutu's Delight!
With Magic Meg at the ready, we've whisked back to 1903 and let me tell you, it's quite the sight! Everywhere we look - fancy horse-drawn carriages, men sporting bowler hats, and women in extravagant, billowing gowns with large, feathered hats that nearly tickle the clouds.
Oh, the fashion! The ballet fashion, that is.
1903 Ballet Style: A Waltz of Romance
The tutus of 1903, my darlings, were positively gorgeous! All flowing layers, long skirts, often with floral embellishments and adorned with feathers or even ribbons, these ballerinas weren't afraid of a little extra oomph! It was exquisite, and the pink one I'm wearing seems right at home in this dance haven. I mean, it’s just practically impossible for a pink tutu to be out of place, is it?
I’ve taken out my little leather rucksack to collect some lovely fabric scraps from some of the elegant ballet outfits I’ve been spying in shops and boutiques. It’s bursting with inspiration, the patterns and colours will really be inspiring my future tutu designs, so it was a definite good day trip today!
Oh, and have you ever heard a waltz being played live? The melody is utterly captivating. It makes my heart just swell with emotion! Every note is a promise of a whirl, of a twirl, and a magical dance that only a real ballet lover could truly appreciate. I cannot express the utter enchantment I am feeling in this historical ballet bubble!
The Magic Meg’s Journey Continues: Finding Ballet Beauty!
This is my absolute favourite thing about time travelling! Immersing myself in the ballet history and culture. It's truly breathtaking!
Later today, Magic Meg and I are going to catch a real ballet performance at the Coliseum in London. The show’s called “Giselle”, an absolutely breathtaking story about love, loss and ghostly apparition. Oh, I’m positively thrilled!
Of course, the journey back in time isn’t just about the history and culture. It's about me, Emma! About exploring my own creative expression through my tutus, my love for pink, and how all of this weaves together in this timeless dance. It’s a ballet world full of possibilities!
And now, darlings, it's time for this time travelling ballerina to hit the stage! I have a fantastic pink tutu performance planned, inspired by my Victorian ballet experience and bursting with glitter and charm. Do come back and check the website next month. I promise, I will tell you all about it! Until then, keep dancing, keep twirling, and keep shining,
Love,
Emma xx
P.S: What’s your dream ballet show you’d love to travel back to? Tell me in the comments! I’d love to know!
