Oh, darlings, I'm positively brimming with excitement! It's been a glorious month, filled with dazzling performances, sumptuous shopping expeditions, and the most wonderful ballet discovery of all… well, that's a surprise for later!
This time, Magic Meg whisked me to the grand December 12th, 1910, a most magical date, and what a trip it was! Let me tell you, it’s no surprise I’m posting about it from my cosy cottage in Derbyshire, snuggling by the fire with a mug of hot chocolate - time travel can be terribly tiring!
Firstly, I must introduce you to the world of ballet back then. Imagine! It was quite the glamorous occasion - think sweeping gowns, gentlemen in their finest attire, and ladies with those feather boas - pure divine!
One thing I was most curious to see was the ballet shows! And oh, let me tell you, the theatre world was simply bursting with life. In Paris, Anna Pavlova, oh that ethereal beauty, was soaring through "The Dying Swan," a ballet so exquisite, so emotionally stirring, it had audiences captivated - a real must-see for any tutu enthusiast, as it truly showcased the strength and grace of a ballerina.
Over in London, the grand, prestigious Royal Opera House was hosting the esteemed Ballets Russes. They had brought the world of Russian ballet right to our shores - the colour, the passion, the incredible stories spun in dance... imagine my delight, darlings! It truly was a moment of brilliance, a testament to the captivating artistry of the ballets.
You know me, darlings, a bit of ballet fashion always gets my heart fluttering. 1910s fashion was all about beautiful, flowing lines. Just imagine: exquisite silk blouses with delicate lace trimming, skirts billowing to the ankles with just the right amount of flutter... oh, my! The ballerinas were adorned in graceful, delicate costumes, with swirling tulle tutus, just a hint of sparkles for that extra bit of magic - a beautiful reminder that a pink tutu is always a great choice, don't you think?
And oh, the wonder of that date! This is when the most important discovery was made... the grand unveiling of "The Sleeping Beauty!" This ballet was so new, it had only debuted in Russia the year before, and here I was in London, soaking in its enchanting magic. It was as though the stage was awash in dreams, stories spun from the music - simply breathtaking! The sheer wonder, the grandeur, the captivating magic – all a beautiful reminder of how a ballet can capture the imagination and transport you to a whole new world.
My rucksack? You bet! Overflowing with gems: an intricate vintage ballet program for “The Sleeping Beauty,” a beautiful vintage photograph of Anna Pavlova in all her elegance, a snippet of tulle that brushed my cheek as I admired a stunning ballerina’s dress – it is a treasure trove of time-travel memories, ready to share with you all!
Don’t worry, I have another little surprise in store. Magic Meg has taken me to another remarkable ballet era - one which is just as beautiful and exciting. Until then, my dearest friends, let’s get twirling! Don’t forget, a pink tutu is always the best way to embrace your inner ballerina! See you next time, with more stories from the magical world of ballet.
Yours in all things pink and fabulous,
Emma x
