Hello lovelies! Emma here, and welcome to Pink-Tutu.com! This month I’m travelling back in time to 12th December 1911. Goodness me, it’s freezing here in London! Even the lovely Magic Meg, my pink sparkly Shire horse, has her breath coming out in puffs of frosty air. It makes me miss my Derbyshire home!
As you know, I’m always on the hunt for inspiring stories from the world of ballet, so today we're looking at what happened in the wonderful world of ballet back in 1911. Now, if you were to have stepped out of your time machine (or your car as is my current style of travel) and gone to see a ballet, chances are you'd see the glorious Anna Pavlova grace the stage. She was a complete ballet icon and performing a whole host of gorgeous ballets - she really did love dancing all the famous classics. She was simply a superstar.
This week in ballet history, there was an important world premiere in the United States: The Swan Lake with the Boston Opera Company, starring Anna Pavlova! I simply adore the Swan Lake - it's one of my all time favourite ballets, and of course it's the very best for my favourite colour, pink! Oh how I love ballet shoes, the tutu, the costume, all of it!
I went to see the show earlier today - such a pleasure, I’d even managed to find a perfectly pink tutu for the occasion, wouldn’t you know it. Such luck! You just can’t beat a traditional Swan Lake, it was magical - I felt like I was floating on the stage. And speaking of the stage, Anna Pavlova wore such an amazing costume, you just had to have seen it to believe it, so of course I got a snap of her! You will find a new picture on the blog.
However, all that dancing can be tiring! Luckily there’s a little vintage café not too far away. It's always been my dream to have my own pink tutu cafe where all the best dancers could come and visit, you know, enjoy delicious tea, maybe even do some impromptu pirouettes in between the sweet treats! Now, you just have to indulge in a delicious piece of Victoria Sponge and watch the ballet world unfold around you... it doesn't get much better.
So my lovely fellow time travellers, 12th December 1911 - it really is a day to remember, I'd say. Anna Pavlova and the wonderful Swan Lake. And, of course, pink! I wonder what the world of ballet holds for us tomorrow! Magic Meg has the whole month ahead to find us the next incredible adventure in the wonderful world of ballet - watch this space! Don’t forget, we are now at www.pink-tutu.com! Always remember to keep your eye out for that pink sparkle, and above all, embrace your inner ballerina! I know I do, all the time, my dearest readers, all the time!
Love Emma x
