Hello, lovelies! Welcome to Pink Tutu Travels, the blog that's always spinning you back through time in a cloud of tulle and glitter! I'm your resident ballerina, Emma, and I'm positively buzzing about this month's trip!
Post Number: 3117
We're galloping into the roaring 20s, my darlings! Think flapper dresses, jazz music, and a touch of daring! But we're not here for the Charleston just yet – we're focusing on something infinitely more graceful: the ballet!
Magic Meg, my pink-sparkling shire horse, has just finished his magnificent morning munching on sugar cubes and polishing his golden hooves, and we're off! He's quite the charmer with those sparkly eyes and oh, such a lovely white mane! We have the biggest and softest pile of pink satin blankets tucked inside my leather rucksack. Perfect for snuggling up after our trip to the opera and catching up with the most fashionable ballet in 1920, naturally!
But hold your pink tutus! What's on the ballet scene in September, you ask?
1920 was a big year for the world of ballet, with plenty to tickle even the most seasoned ballerina’s toes!
The first stop on our travels? Paris! It’s simply brimming with ballerinas! The esteemed Serge Diaghilev’s Ballets Russes company, with its stunning sets, costumes, and innovative choreography, is causing quite a stir. Diaghilev, a real showman, has even brought along renowned dancers like Tamara Karsavina and Vaslav Nijinsky.
Their repertoire is a feast for the senses, my darlings. Imagine: “Scheherazade” by Rimsky-Korsakov, “The Firebird” by Stravinsky, “Petrouchka” – and I simply have to see the daringly sensual “Parade”! A fusion of ballet and modern techniques!
We might just squeeze in a little shopping on the Champs-Elysees, you know! I’ve heard it's a paradise for tulle and satin, and my rucksack needs some more of that enchanting French magic!
Then we’ll head over to London’s esteemed Royal Opera House! They’re showcasing some true talent like the vibrant Alicia Markova and the wonderful Léonide Massine! You know, dear readers, a dance performance just wouldn’t be complete without the vibrant energy of London's fashion, too!
Onwards to the States! America is really embracing ballet this year, you know, dear readers. The Metropolitan Opera in New York is seeing sold-out nights! And they’re putting on all the works by the brilliant Mikhail Fokine – so graceful and romantic. I’ve just purchased some beautiful velvet shoes that will complement my pastel pink tutu so well.
What more is there to say? September 1920 is a real sweetheart of a month. My tutu feels so incredibly full of joy as I think about all the shows and fashion I get to soak up. I hope you’ve enjoyed the ride as we gallop along!
