Pink Tutu Time Travel: Blog Post #3118 – 10th October, 1920

Hello my darling darlings! It’s Emma here, and oh my, where do I even begin with this incredible time-traveling adventure? This month, Magic Meg and I journeyed to a delightful 10th October in 1920. Just picture it – a flurry of silk, a whiff of powder, and the echoes of an orchestra that were, simply put, utterly enchanting!

As soon as we arrived in the roaring twenties, I slipped into my new pink tutu, a gloriously voluminous affair that just screamed 'fabulous'! Magic Meg was a sight to behold, her mane flowing in the gentle breeze as she pranced through the streets of London, all that dazzling gold reflecting in the October sunshine. I tell you, dear readers, travelling by horse is truly the way to go!

We landed at the very doorstep of the legendary Sadler’s Wells Theatre, which at this time was in its early days as a true hub of artistry. Imagine the excitement of stepping into a theatre brimming with anticipation and promise. And as we took our places in the audience, the murmur of hushed conversations mingled with the excitement of a bustling scene, all dressed to the nines in the latest fashions, just as I was in my exquisite pink tutu.

On that magical October night, I had the immense privilege of seeing the legendary Adeline Genée, one of the leading ballerinas of her time, perform a mesmerising solo piece. This was her final performance, which made it extra special. Her artistry and elegance captivated the entire audience! Such grace, such effortless skill! Honestly, my dear readers, it was a breathtaking experience that left me completely mesmerised. It reminded me why I adore ballet so much - it's not just dancing; it’s a story, an emotion, a captivating dance with time and space itself.

And to top it all off, a fellow tutu-enthusiast, the famous actress and ballerina Lilian Baylis, sat right next to me! We talked about everything from ballet's future in London to the latest fashion trends, which I gleefully wrote down in my leather rucksack! Who knew 1920 would be so chic?

Oh, and speaking of fashion, dear readers, the tutus worn by the dancers in the ballet were just exquisite! There was a lovely, billowing silk skirt with the most elegant, tiered ruffles, and each tutu was designed in the most enchanting shade of pale pink that shimmered under the stage lights. And I could tell from the outfits worn by the dancers, that ballet fashion is more about effortless grace than fussy details – think soft tulle, elegant silk, and oh-so-feminine lines. All with a sprinkle of sequins and feathers to add that extra touch of sparkle.

As a reward for braving the time machine, Magic Meg and I headed to the wonderful Regent Street for some retail therapy. I snagged some exquisite velvet ribbons for a new pink tutu I’m designing, and also found a delightful pair of delicate silver shoes for my latest performance. This delightful 1920’s style really lends itself to the magic of pink, so I added a few sparkling embellishments and made sure they were as pink as possible! It truly felt like a ballet fashion fairyland!

But darling, here is what is most inspiring, 10th October 1920, witnessed the grand opening of The Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow. This event was a pivotal moment in Russian ballet history, truly something for the ages, wouldn’t you say? This grand spectacle of art and entertainment celebrated the beauty of ballet and dance. As if a shimmering pink tutu were a spotlight illuminating the scene! It made my heart swell with pride to see such a profound dedication to ballet across the globe!

So, darling darlings, don’t forget to wear pink, let your inner ballerina bloom and make the most of your every dance with life! And never, ever be afraid to dream of tutus, magic horses and adventures through time! After all, the world of ballet is bursting with beauty and inspiration! As always, I will be posting more from the pink tutu world soon! Remember, until next time, keep on dancing and stay fabulous!

Yours in tulle and shimmer,

Emma
