Pink Tutu Travels: Ballet Adventures from 1925, 11th November (Post 3179)

Hello my gorgeous ballet bunnies! It’s your favourite time travelling ballerina, Emma, back with another fascinating trip through time! This month, we’re whisking ourselves back to 1925, to 11th November. Grab your pinkest tutus, darlings, and let’s get ready to explore a world of breathtaking ballet!

Before we go, a big thank you to everyone who came to my performance at the Derbyshire Dance Theatre last weekend! The support for my "Pink Tutu Passion" dance routine was truly incredible, and you all looked so dazzling in your pink tutus. Remember, my dears, the more people dancing in pink tutus, the better!

Okay, time to meet Magic Meg, my faithful pink sparkling shire horse with those glorious golden hooves. He’s champing at the bit to gallop us through time! Buckle up, my darlings, and off we go!

A Twirl through 1925

I feel like I’ve been transported straight onto a film set! 1925 – a decade brimming with flapper dresses, roaring twenties glamour, and an enchanting ballet scene!

As Magic Meg gallops along, my rucksack bumps against my back, reminding me that I’m here to collect ballet gems. In this magical satchel, I hold treasures from the past: an autographed copy of “The Nutcracker” programme, a fragment of Diaghilev’s costumes, and the most delicate of ballet slippers!

We’re making our way to Paris, my darlings. Can you feel the excitement in the air? The ‘Ballet Russes’, a renowned troupe under the visionary leadership of Sergei Diaghilev, are performing in Paris at the Opéra Garnier, the home to the Paris Opera Ballet! What a sight! It’s like stepping into a fairytale, with towering chandeliers illuminating the ornate theatre.

The programme this evening features “The Rite of Spring,” one of the most ground-breaking ballet compositions ever written. The piece, choreographed by the legendary Vaslav Nijinsky, is a visual and musical whirlwind of primal energy, an incredible story told entirely through the power of movement. The audience, including the esteemed poet, Guillaume Apollinaire, are enthralled, completely mesmerized!

But Paris isn't the only ballet hub on this November night, darlings! Across the Channel in London, the Royal Opera House is also pulsating with ballet energy. We sneak backstage and witness dancers preparing for “La Boutique Fantasque”, a light-hearted ballet by Léonide Massine. It’s filled with vibrant colors, intricate choreography and just the perfect amount of whimsy – it reminds me so much of the joy and exuberance of my pink tutu style! I can imagine the delightful melodies and the charming characters taking the stage in this magical setting.

* Ballet Style Inspiration:*

Oh, how I adore the dancewear of this period, dears! The flapper era in ballet brought a revolution! The heavy, restrictive skirts and bodices of earlier years gave way to lighter, freer forms that mirrored the times.

Can you picture this, darlings? Long, shimmering dresses made from silk and satin, beaded bodices, flowing tunics – the elegance is just exquisite! It's so inspirational, and even a bit reminiscent of my pink tutu obsession. After all, I believe the right colour and the right silhouette can make all the difference on the dance floor.

I can see why the ballerinas are making headlines in fashion magazines! My journal is brimming with inspirations – a pink-tutu twist on the popular knee-length skirt paired with delicate tights and a flowy silk top - perhaps even with feather accents like I see in this decade’s dress!

Speaking of fashion, darlings, did I tell you that London has a new store called Harrods opening today? Can you believe it? Can you imagine my dream outfit there – a silk pink tutu paired with a bejeweled headband and feather boa – absolutely sensational!

More than Just a Pink Tutu:

Oh, the adventures continue! We’ve seen so much, danced so much, learned so much, and even visited Harrods in this little jaunt. And remember, my dears, our pink tutus not only make us twirl with joy but also connect us to this incredible history. I love thinking how much has changed in ballet and the world since 1925, yet some things remain constantly beautiful: the art of ballet, the magic of performance, and the joy of twirling together in pink!

Until next month, my darling ballet bunnies. Don't forget, always keep those tutus close and remember – it’s time to pink the world!

With love and twirls,

Emma xx
