Pink Tutu Time Travels - Post #3222 - June 1929: A Parisian Treat!

Bonjour, darlings! It's Emma here, your Pink Tutu Time Traveller, reporting live from, well... who knows! You see, my darling Meg (my pink-sparkling shire horse with the golden hooves and snow-white mane and tail) is so darn excited today! She can smell the croissants from miles away! 🥐

This month, we've time-travelled all the way to Paris, darling! It's the 6th of June, 1929 to be precise! Ooh, Paris always does it for me, and of course, I couldn't resist donning my pinkest, twirliest, most Parisian-inspired tutu for the occasion.

*A Glimmering Grand Opera *

And my little darlings, guess what? The Opèra de Paris is on my to-do list! I heard a rumour that it's the place to be seen and my love of all things ballet knows no bounds, particularly when the setting is as grand and romantic as Paris. Just imagine, the ornate decorations, the shimmering chandeliers and of course, a bevy of beautifully dressed ballerinas on the stage! Can't you feel the excitement already?

Ballet Stars of the Era

Now, of course, any Parisian ballet aficionado has to pay a visit to the * Opéra! In 1929, they would have been lucky enough to see ballerinas like Olga Spessivtseva, known for her dazzling technique and emotional power, and the magnificent Tamara Karsavina who performed at the *Opéra at the height of her career, leaving a lasting impact on audiences with her captivating beauty and ethereal stage presence!

I just imagine those performances, those movements, those costumes! The magic, the inspiration, the grace... 🩰 It makes me want to spin on my toes right here, in this historical Paris square, just in my pink tutu! Oh, the romanticism, darling, the sheer joy!

*Pink-Tinted Paris *

And what would a time traveller to 1929 Paris be without exploring the chicest boutiques, discovering new trends, and perhaps indulging in a little bit of couture? Oh, darling! Did I tell you? I fell head over heels with a fabulous shop near the Champs-Élysées! It has all the beautiful frills, bows, and the prettiest little pink accessories I ever did see! I even saw a couple of pairs of ballet shoes in the most amazing shades of pink! swoon!

You see, 1929 was all about sleek, streamlined silhouettes, and this really influenced dance costumes of the time. They were very simple, elegant, and just had the right amount of sparkle.

Fashion Forward

The Parisiennes were definitely a step ahead in terms of style! Fashionable young ladies wore short bobbed hair and dropped waists! I did feel slightly underdressed in my pink tutu but Meg was the epitome of elegance in her silky, shimmering coat! She would never be mistaken for a 'mere' horse.

A Little Bit Of Everything

Speaking of style, 1929 was a vibrant year for the ballet world, with performances all over the globe, darling. Did you know Swan Lake had its American debut this year! Yes, Swan Lake in the U.S.A. Just think, what was considered 'ordinary' in Paris just a few decades ago is now a truly global ballet phenomenon!

And darling, let me tell you a little secret...I'm not the only one in love with ballet in 1929! 🤫 The * Royal Ballet * , founded as the Vic-Wells Ballet, was going full steam ahead in England! They are building up quite a following at the *Old Vic Theatre * in London!

I'm definitely adding it to my Pink Tutu Time Traveller itinerary for next month. You'll never guess who is the director... the one, the only, the magnificent Ninette de Valois. She was just as stylish as all those lovely Parisians! 💖

Time To Wrap It Up

And with that, darling, I'm afraid it's time to head back. I have a feeling Meg is yearning for a lovely slice of French apple tart! But don't worry! I've gathered more than my fair share of ballet stories, bits and bobs for my pink rucksack and a few more pink fashion ideas for all of you at www.pink-tutu.com.

Stay stylish!

Until next time,

Love, Emma 💖

P.S: I know you all love pink as much as I do, darlings, and it’s time we all reclaim our inner ballerina and embrace the power of pink. Go on, put on your pinkest tutu! #pinktutuforthewin! #balletfashion #1929ballet
