Hello my dearest Tutu-lovers! Welcome to another thrilling escapade through time on www.pink-tutu.com! Today's date, July 7th, 1929, marks a particularly exciting chapter in the annals of dance history - but before we dive into the exciting world of ballet back then, let's get our fabulous pink tutus spinning!
The weather here in Derbyshire is absolutely delightful today, a beautiful blue sky dotted with fluffy clouds and a gentle breeze rustling the leaves of our majestic oak trees. A perfect day for twirling, wouldn't you agree?
But back to the exciting trip we’re about to embark on! This month, Magic Meg, my dear sparkling shire horse with her glorious golden hooves and mane as white as snow, will be transporting me back to 1929, a time of roaring jazz and the dazzling rise of ballet.
Just imagine – we'll be travelling in time to a world buzzing with innovation and cultural excitement! This is the era of the flapper dresses, sleek bob haircuts, and audacious Charleston steps, a time when people longed to dance the night away, and ballet was bursting with revolutionary ideas.
I've been doing my research for this particular trip and oh, what a delightful time it will be! It is here that we find the remarkable Serge Diaghilev's Ballets Russes, reaching the peak of their fame and grandeur. Diaghilev's legendary ballet company was sweeping the globe, with a stunning combination of dazzling choreography, captivating costumes, and the most imaginative set designs.
My research led me to the "Les Biches" ballet! A dazzling performance created by Bronislava Nijinska, one of Diaghilev’s brilliant and innovative choreographers, featuring a revolutionary mix of sharp and energetic movements – not your typical romantic tutu pirouette, but rather powerful, strong, and modern lines! It was, as they say, the "talk of the town"!
To my delight, it was also the year of the "The Good Humored Ladies" ballet, premiered in Rome, Italy! This is a playful and romantic piece based on Mozart's charming opera, where I'm told the graceful dancers frolic, laugh, and even spar with each other! The elegant costumes alone would make my Tutu-loving heart flutter.
I’ve packed my rucksack to the brim! My research notes, a beautiful vintage fan (I love the antique charm!), a new pink satin ribbon for my hair and my special "Ballet Treasures" box to collect some little souvenirs of this wonderful journey.
And my darling readers, don't forget my special ballet fashion focus! What will the fashionistas be sporting at this time? I've been browsing through fashion magazines from the era and I'm already thinking about the designs for a vintage collection! Just imagine – a flowing, feathered ballet skirt in hues of ivory and peach with sparkling embellishments, a soft pastel pink silk blouse with a delicate lace collar! The perfect look for any ballerina who dares to dance back in time!
With the thrill of discovery and my trusty steed, Magic Meg, I will be bringing you a glimpse into the extraordinary world of 1929, revealing its ballet history, costumes, and stories for all of you to enjoy. Keep an eye out for my upcoming posts! Stay safe, happy twirling and see you next time!
Don't forget, my lovelies! The more of us that don pink tutus, the more beautiful the world will become. We will create a magical pink wave of Tutu-licious delight, starting right here and right now! Until next month...
Love and pink tutus!
