Hello my dearest fellow tutu-lovers! It's Emma here, your favourite pink-tutu-wearing, time-travelling ballerina, ready to take you on another adventure! Today's trip whisks us back to September 9th, 1933, and oh, what a wonderful journey it was!
I must say, there's something utterly captivating about the 1930s. The glamorous fashion, the burgeoning excitement surrounding the rise of cinema, and a flourishing art scene, all contribute to such a vibrant energy!
Before I reveal my fabulous finds, a little peek into how I made this magical voyage: I've been saving up from my ballet performances and even managed to sell a few beautiful vintage items from my collection to fuel my journey. Speaking of, Magic Meg, my magnificent pink sparkling shire horse, with her golden hooves and snow-white mane and tail, was a sight to behold as we galloped through the misty Derbyshire morning towards our very own TARDIS β the gateway to history!
The World of Ballet on 9th September 1933Now, onto the world of ballet! It was quite exciting to discover that on this date, a ballet called "La Princesse au petit pois" premiered at the Salle Pleyel in Paris. You can imagine my excitement as a tutu-lover! I had to dash right to the theater β well, after I galloped Magic Meg there, naturally!
The story of this beautiful ballet was adapted from Hans Christian Andersen's "The Princess and the Pea." The lovely choreographed piece is said to be absolutely captivating with exquisite costumes and a romantic storyline. Sadly, I arrived after the performance, but I snuck into the theater's library and spent a good hour delving into historical ballet programs, photos, and reviews. They even had an amazing display of vintage posters from ballet performances β I had to sneak a few for my collection, hidden under my tutu, of course!
Later that evening, I took a spin around Paris, admiring the elegance of the 1930s ladies and gentlemen β think flowing gowns and dapper suits! I even bumped into Anna Pavlova, one of the world's most renowned ballerinas, sipping tea at a beautiful outdoor cafe! Sadly, she was in a hurry and didnβt have time to chat. Still, my heart nearly exploded when I recognised her from her many photographs!
Onward to a Fashion Frenzy
Naturally, no visit to the 1930s would be complete without a visit to the fashion district. I managed to squeeze in some shopping for my own tutu collection. You wouldn't believe the beautiful colours and materials they had back then. My new favourite purchase is a luscious shade of dusky rose, a vintage chiffon number perfect for a twirling dance with a little sprinkle of Parisian flair. And yes, I got it tucked safely in my rucksack!
More Than Just Pink Tutus...
Even though my primary objective in life is to get everyone wearing a pink tutu, this trip reminded me of something more profound. 1933 was a time of significant cultural changes and innovations. As I explored Paris, I discovered incredible museums filled with art masterpieces that captured the soul of the era. The fashion was simply exquisite, and there was a sense of creative explosion in every corner. The music, the art, and the movement all felt intertwined. And that's the beauty of time travel β it reminds us that fashion, dance, art, and all the little joys in life have a captivating power to unite us.
Before I vanish back to my present time, let me share one little nugget of wisdom: Embrace the beauty around you, explore new ideas, and donβt forget to dance!

P.S. My next journey takes us to the grand opening of the Sydney Opera House! Can you believe that the iconic building was born on this very date, September 9th, 1959? Oh, the stories I will gather! You'll have to read all about it on the next blog post!
