Hello darlings! Welcome back to my little corner of the internet where ballet meets time travel! I’m your whimsical guide, Emma, and this month we’re taking a trip to a very special date: the 10th of October, 1964.
Now, you all know my penchant for pink tutus – the fluffier, the better! So imagine my delight when I found out that this particular date coincided with the world premiere of a ballet I just had to see: "The Rite of Spring" by Maurice Béjart.
Remember that legendary horse of mine, Magic Meg? She's the reason I can travel through time! It's all thanks to her magical powers and her dazzling pink sparkle, you know. We just jump on her back, wish for a specific date, and off we go! It's the most delightful, whirlwind journey!
For this adventure, we decided on a journey to Paris, home of all things chic and fabulous, and a key city for ballet. And believe me, Magic Meg knew just the spot to land: right outside the Théâtre de la Ville! It was a stunning location, adorned with dazzling lights and a palpable excitement in the air.
The theater itself was absolutely grand – high ceilings, velvet seats, ornate chandeliers - and the air was filled with a beautiful sense of anticipation. I couldn’t wait to see Béjart's magnifique production! The costumes were beyond extravagant. This wasn’t just any old tutu – these were futuristic, bold designs. Imagine sleek, angular movements against a backdrop of bright colours and daringly geometric patterns, a true testament to the creative vision of this genius.
But of course, no ballet adventure is complete without a little bit of shopping! Luckily, Paris is a fashion haven and I found the most adorable vintage shop just off the Champs-Élysées! I snatched up some chic accessories, perfect for the retro 60's feel of this trip. And speaking of retro – imagine my joy at finding a vintage pink tutu tucked away at the back! A bit of wear and tear, but it just added to its charm, wouldn't you say?
After a wonderful evening of ballet, a bit of window-shopping, and the purchase of my lovely pink vintage tutu (now a prized possession!), Magic Meg whisked us back to Derbyshire, ready for another grand adventure!
