Hello lovelies, and welcome to another instalment of my Pink Tutu Time Travels! This month, Magic Meg and I have whisked ourselves to the vibrant and stylish heart of Paris - ooh la la! – on the 12th December 1965. I’ve filled my little leather rucksack with Parisian chic and fabulous stories, all inspired by the dazzling world of ballet.
Oh, darling, where do I begin? We arrived to a whirlwind of excitement – the city is absolutely buzzing! It’s such a dreamy atmosphere here in Paris; cobblestone streets, chic cafes spilling onto the pavement, the scent of croissants and freshly baked pastries – a symphony for the senses.
I am wearing, of course, my new pale pink tutu, perfectly accented by a pair of sparkling silver ballet shoes and a matching feather boa, all perfectly accessorised by a little beret – you see, it’s essential to blend in!
Today was especially exciting. I simply couldn't resist popping into the Palais Garnier to soak in the grandeur of the building and enjoy the ballet performances on the bill! Imagine, darling, the Opera National de Paris is performing a double bill: “The Sleeping Beauty,” the iconic work by the wonderful Tchaikovsky, and "Cinderella," a captivating masterpiece by Sergei Prokofiev. Can you believe it? These two timeless ballets - all in one night! I felt my little pink ballet heart bursting with joy! The energy, the talent, the music… divine. And all those beautifully adorned tutus, swirling around the stage… I absolutely loved it!
My trusty little leather rucksack is brimming with a souvenir programme from the performance. It’s even signed by one of the dancers, a young and vibrant woman by the name of Sylvie Guillem. This treasure will certainly be one for my collection!
But the excitement doesn't end there! There is so much more to see in this city, and the sheer vibrancy of Parisian street life is simply intoxicating. While wandering through the charming Latin Quarter, I stumbled upon a truly unique spectacle - a street ballet performance! Imagine, a group of passionate dancers, with such elegant moves, weaving their magic around a fountain, a story of passion and heartbreak told purely through dance – utterly captivating!
Of course, no trip to Paris is complete without a little retail therapy, so after all that dance-induced excitement, I had to pay a visit to the legendary department stores – they are absolutely divine. The world of ballet fashion is vast, and this time I simply had to add a pair of pale pink satin ballet shoes with dazzling crystal buckles and a stunning beaded tutu to my collection, just for my next big show!
The ballet world in 1965 is overflowing with energy! From grand opera houses to street performances, it's a celebration of grace and passion. And with so much to see and experience, I feel inspired to keep searching for those little treasures that bring history to life, to capture those fleeting moments of brilliance.
And to think, this is just the tip of the iceberg. Next month, Magic Meg and I will be taking you on a magical adventure – I won’t give any spoilers, darlings, but you can bet it’ll be an adventure worthy of the most dazzling pink tutu!
