Hello, darlings! Emma here, your favourite pink tutu-clad time-traveller, and welcome to another edition of my Pink Tutu Time Travels blog! It's time for a little trip back in time, wouldn't you agree? This month, I'm taking us back to the 7th July 1972 - a simply sensational year for ballet, full of exquisite performances and fascinating stories. Buckle up, dears, because we're off on another glamorous adventure!
Before we whisk ourselves away on Magic Meg's back (have I told you she has the most delightful pink and gold shimmery coat this month, simply divine!), let's talk about my wardrobe for today's time travel escapade. Of course, I'm decked out in the most magnificent shade of pink, a blush that perfectly complements the sweltering summer heat of 1972. It's a classic tulle tutu, the frills just brushing the ground, and a silky pink blouse that sparkles with a hundred tiny diamante, oh, the elegance! I've got my trusty leather rucksack, filled with shimmering silks and vintage dance programmes from this glorious era, ready for me to capture some memories for you all!
Now, Magic Meg is ready, her pink mane and tail flowing in the breeze. With a flick of her magical hooves and a whispered "Take me back to 1972," we're off!
The world is abuzz with energy, and what is most astounding, dears, is the pure joy of ballet! This is a time of revolutionary artistic exploration, with ballet companies and dancers daring to push the boundaries. As we land, Magic Meg's golden hooves sparkle, like stars in a clear summer sky, a testament to the brilliance of the year.
Here’s a little taste of what the ballet world was dishing up on 7th July, 1972, darling!
In Paris, The Ballet de l’Opéra, under the helm of the dynamic Rolf de Maré, is about to premiere Roland Petit’s stunning adaptation of ‘Daphnis and Chloé’. A love story as old as time itself, but with the brilliance of this choreography, and set in ancient Greece, I bet the entire world was enchanted! And to add a touch of pink to the Parisian spectacle, I spied several ladies in the audience wearing stunning pink feathered hats - the height of elegance, darling!
Across the Atlantic, New York City was buzzing about the new dance production at the Metropolitan Opera House. The legendary Alvin Ailey was captivating the world with a moving exploration of contemporary dance. They say the passion, and emotion on display, had the audience captivated, and leaving them in tears - an art that really touches your soul, you see.
On this side of the pond, in Derbyshire, where I am from, you wouldn't believe it, darlings, a new ballet studio has opened right here! Isn't that simply wonderful? It's tucked away in a charming corner of the town, with pink paint and shiny wood floors. A lovely sight, don't you think? I imagine little dancers twirling, so elegant and graceful, under the watchful eye of a kindly teacher, filling the space with a soft melodic symphony of dance and beauty.
As the sun begins to set, painting the sky with breathtaking hues of pink, orange, and violet, Magic Meg is waiting, ready for the return journey. Before we take off, let's pop by the local sweet shop, my dears, for a delightful treat to complete the day. What could be better, than the delicious taste of a raspberry sorbet on this gorgeous summer evening?
And as we speed through the sky, stars twirling overhead, we bid farewell to July 7th, 1972. I can tell you, darlings, it's been an absolute whirlwind, full of exquisite elegance, heartwarming moments, and pure magic. Now, I'll be returning home with an arsenal of new inspiration and captivating stories.
Until next time, darlings, keep the ballet spirit alive and don't forget, everyone looks stunning in pink. You heard it here first, it’s time to unleash the inner tutu in you, you're a natural!
And please, visit www.pink-tutu.com and let me know which era you would like me to explore next month! I am simply dying to hear your suggestions.
Until then, take care, my dears, and Happy Dancing!
