Post 3918: A Twirling Tour of 1987, 6th June - Pink Tutu Time Travel!

Hello lovelies! Emma here, and as you all know, I’m all about celebrating the joy and wonder of ballet - it’s more than just pirouettes and pliés, it’s about storytelling, grace, and pure artistry. So, saddle up with me, darlings, because today we’re embarking on a journey back in time with Magic Meg! This month, we’re going back to the 6th of June, 1987, ready for a fabulous twirl through the world of ballet.

Pink, as always, is our theme, because pink just makes me happy and makes the world feel more delightful. The best thing about this journey? I’m rocking my most luscious, billowing pink tutu - the one with the sequined detail! You simply must get yourself a pink tutu – they add such a delightful flourish to any adventure.

Oh! Don't forget my darling Magic Meg, my majestic pink sparkling Shire horse! She loves wearing her beautiful pink feathered head-dress when we time travel. Magic Meg has golden hooves, and a mane and tail that look as though they’ve been spun from moonlight - absolutely glorious. We're lucky that Meg's such a gentle giant.

First stop - a lovely afternoon performance in Derbyshire, England, at the beautiful Derby Playhouse, of course! (Remember darlings, there are more places called Derby around the world). This is where I’m from, and there’s something rather charming about seeing the place where you grew up, albeit from the past!

At the Playhouse, there’s an enthralling rendition of “La Sylphide.” You know I love those classical ballets - they have so much charm! Can you imagine watching a delicate ballerina leap gracefully onto the stage? I bet it felt magical.

I made a little trip over to the Royal Opera House to see a bit of "Romeo and Juliet" too. The performance must have been stunning with the grandeur of the Covent Garden stage setting! This ballet’s timeless beauty is truly captivating! Imagine all those lovely costumes too.

And speaking of beautiful costumes! This year in ballet history has been spectacular for design and fashion. It seems to have been all about intricate tulle and flowing skirts - so much pink! I spotted the most delightful tulle ballet skirts for dancers at this time!

My oh my, even with time travel, ballet fashion changes so much, even year-on-year, but those stunning skirts still have the power to make you sigh in appreciation, even all these years later. My rucksack is brimming with fashion sketches – you know I’m just a tad obsessed with all things sartorial!

My travel companions - Magic Meg, my ballet boots, and my faithful pink rucksack (don’t even think about leaving the house without one of those - they are perfect for carrying treasures you find!), had such a magical day!

After our ballet escapade, I decided to check out what the rest of the world was up to in June of ‘87! I must say, there were some absolutely delightful concerts happening – in fact, I spotted a couple of very glamorous jazz and classical performers! The ballet seems to be gaining wider appeal! Isn't that wonderful? You can see the connection between the world of dance and music - how closely entwined these disciplines are!

The music at these shows was beautiful, a great backdrop for twirling about! I was particularly mesmerized by some of the modern orchestral arrangements. Music in all its forms has such a wonderful power to connect us and create such magical emotions. It was the ultimate backdrop for a great day.

It was a whirlwind trip through time! It’s so thrilling to watch the world of ballet develop and see how it captures the spirit of the times – sometimes grand and majestic and at other times lighthearted and fun, but always captivating, just like a good story!

I’m going to finish with a reminder about my beautiful online world – www.pink-tutu.com! There, you’ll find more about this fabulous world, some stunning images from my adventures through the history of ballet, and much, much more about my absolute favourite time period! Come and join me, my darlings, in exploring the world of pink tutus. I simply love sharing my adventures, stories, and love of dance with you all. See you next time, for another dance through time!
