Hello darlings! It's Emma, your favourite pink tutu-clad time traveller, ready to whisk you away to a fabulous world of ballet! This month, my pink steed Magic Meg (she’s a shimmering pink Shire with golden hooves, white mane, and tail – so utterly divine!) has carried me to the 11th November, 1991! Buckle up, dears, as we waltz through time, exploring the ballet scene and collecting a little sartorial inspiration along the way.
The Ballet World, 1991This date, darlings, is overflowing with captivating performances across the globe! We have the renowned Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow, featuring a new production of “Giselle,” a story of betrayal and heartbreak which I just have to witness. Oh, and did I mention the glorious costumes? Those tutus, all soft layers of tulle and intricately sewn details... my heart flutters! In New York, the American Ballet Theatre is taking on a majestic rendition of “Swan Lake.” Now, any performance involving graceful swans is right up my alley. And, across the pond, in London, the Royal Ballet is celebrating the birthday of a certain famous ballerina – Dame Margot Fonteyn! Who better to inspire us, with her graceful elegance and legendary talent?
My leather rucksack is practically bursting with stories from these enchanting performances. The buzz surrounding the Moscow production, with the crowds clamoring for tickets and the buzz of anticipation in the air! And those glorious costumes! The white tutu for the innocent Giselle, adorned with intricate embroideries – such beauty! My love of ballet fashion never falters. And of course, I've been collecting those beautiful ballet programs as always – treasures for my personal collection.
A Touch of Pink in 1991Although this isn't quite the pink-tutu-laden era that my own time holds, I've spotted a touch of my favourite colour in 1991! In a delightful ballet shop in London, I saw the most exquisite collection of pointe shoes. They were all beautifully hand-crafted, and a few pairs, in a blush-like pink, just sang to my soul! And, you know what else I've discovered? Ballet clothing has started incorporating more shades of pink and peach into its designs. Such an evolution!
I also stumbled upon a darling young ballet dancer in a London studio. She was sporting a pink leotard that sparkled under the studio lights and looked so graceful as she twirled through the barre exercises. Now that's an inspiring sight, a vision of future possibilities for ballet wear! Perhaps she’ll even consider incorporating more pink into her costumes one day, I mused, sipping on my chamomile tea with honey as I pen these very words.
London, London, LondonAh, London! What a place! I have always loved London. And my heart is aflutter just remembering the stunning architectural designs of the Royal Opera House! Those gilded balconies and those chandeliers. And then there is the ballet. Oh, London ballet is divine, and always inspiring me! The sheer energy of a London ballet performance – those breathtaking leaps, those intricate steps, and the way the music wraps around you, oh, it’s simply intoxicating. It truly inspires me.
I also, of course, indulge in my penchant for all things fashionable while in the capital. I even found a pair of delightful shoes on sale in a charming boutique – perfect ballet flats for casual days! Now, all I need is a vintage handbag and a beret. Perhaps a light pink or a shade of blush, to complete the ensemble.
Riding Off with Magic MegAs the sun sets, painting the sky with hues of lavender and soft orange, Magic Meg and I are preparing to embark on another time-hopping journey. It's been an extraordinary day, filled with inspiring performances and enchanting discoveries. Before I take off though, darlings, I have a little confession to make. There was this extraordinary display of antique tutus at a little shop just outside London, oh, so charming and filled with so much history. It was an almost uncontrollable urge that made me, well, “acquire” a particularly divine Victorian-era tutu for myself, I promise it'll look magnificent when I dance!
And to my readers – the fabulous people who always get me so inspired – I say this: embrace your passion, embrace pink, embrace life and dance like nobody's watching! After all, the world's a stage and every step is a chance to create magic, just like our Pink Tutu Time Travel Diaries!
Until next month, darlings! And remember: Pink tutus are for everyone, from ballerinas to aspiring dancers, from London to Moscow, and beyond!
With love and twirls,
Emma
