Hello my lovely ballet-loving bunnies! It’s your favourite pink tutu-wearing time traveller, Emma, back with another blast from the past! This month, we’re stepping back to December 12th, 1991, and oh my darling darlings, it’s a real cracker!
Now, you know I love a good story, and this one’s filled with a real fairytale romance, just like a perfect ballet performance. Grab your favourite pink ballet shoes and a hot chocolate (with marshmallows, naturally!), because you're in for a treat.
Remember Magic Meg? My beautiful, shimmering pink Shire horse, whose mane and tail flow like a ballet dancer's ribbons? Well, we had quite the journey to get to this date! We were dancing across the cobbled streets of Derbyshire, just after performing for the local market (they seemed to love the final pirouette!), when suddenly a brilliant, iridescent shimmer pulsed through the air! The old town clock chimed, and just like that, we were whisked back through the ages!
Meg, as always, was calm and collected. She’s used to my impromptu time travelling escapades! We arrived with a flourish right into the middle of a grand ballroom! The air hummed with excitement, and the smell of fresh lilies, oh it was divine!
Everyone was dressed to the nines. Glittering gowns, feathered boas, and of course, my favourite: ballet shoes! (Not a single pink tutu though – tsk tsk). The music began, a soaring waltz that swept me up in its magical rhythm. As the night spun onwards, I felt a flutter in my heart – love, darling, the kind of love you only feel in the midst of a spectacular ballet. A handsome gentleman, eyes sparkling like the chandeliers above, caught my gaze. We danced and talked for hours, all about his passion for ballet, about the new shows opening at the Royal Opera House, even about his secret wish to one day wear a pink tutu (though, he wouldn’t dare! Or would he?).
As the night faded and the final chords of the waltz played, I knew we had to leave. With a wink and a farewell embrace, we said goodbye. He'll be joining us on another adventure, perhaps, when we head to the ballet next month? Maybe even wearing a pink tutu? Now wouldn't that be a delightful sight?
Speaking of ballet! December 12th, 1991, saw some incredible performances!
At the Royal Opera House in London, The Nutcracker was a hit! I've seen so many adaptations, but there's something special about the magic of seeing it unfold on the Royal Opera House stage. And, my goodness, did the audience love it! Every pirouette, every arabesque, every jump was greeted with thunderous applause.
At the Bolshoi in Moscow, there was a phenomenal performance of "The Sleeping Beauty"! It’s been quite a few years since I've seen a production of it, and let me tell you, the Bolshoi troupe did not disappoint! Such exquisite movements, such flawless execution. They had me mesmerized from beginning to end!
I even snuck in a ballet class in Paris that day! Imagine it - me, swirling and twirling with all the graceful Parisians! The teacher had a passion for ballet that really sparked something inside of me. It was inspiring to see so many students of all ages dedicated to this beautiful art form.
It was such a magnificent, vibrant night. Now, you can all understand my pink-tutu-loving heart wouldn't have it any other way! As I’ve said before, ballet is a magical world, filled with elegance, emotion, and sheer beauty. From the dancers themselves, their breathtakingly beautiful movements, their dedication, to the fashion they wear – the exquisite ballet slippers, the elegant pointe shoes, the dazzling, flowing costumes… sigh… It’s truly an experience that touches every sense.
Of course, as I always say, a good tutu completes the ballet picture! This month I've managed to snag some real gems!
- From the Parisian dance studio: A truly exquisite hand-stitched ballet tutu, a perfect delicate shade of pink with layers of tulle that create the most stunning, swirling effect as it moves. squeals!
From The Royal Opera House performance: An autographed photo of a renowned ballerina from "The Nutcracker" fans self...
My ballet bag is getting quite full now. So much amazing inspiration for all you amazing readers to make your ballet journey magical.
