Oh, hello my darling dancers! It's Emma here, and oh, how wonderful to see you all again on another pink-tastic trip through time! Now, for this month's adventure, Magic Meg and I decided to hop on our sparkly saddle (which has become even more pink and shimmering, by the way!), and head to a very special date – 5th May, 2000! Can you imagine?
This was a rather momentous day for the world of ballet, as several iconic events were unfolding across the globe.
We started off in London, of course, where the Royal Ballet was performing “The Sleeping Beauty.” My, oh my, what a magnificent spectacle! I simply had to purchase a beautiful pair of sparkly ballet slippers from the Covent Garden market stall just outside the theatre! You know I love a bit of ballet bling, don't you?
Later, we went to see the New York City Ballet, where "Serenade" was on the programme. I fell utterly in love with the music and the movements, it was utterly enchanting! And the costumes were truly divine, darling! You wouldn't believe the amount of tulle and delicate beading – absolutely swoon-worthy!
Of course, I couldn't miss the chance to catch up on the latest in fashion, and oh darling, what a decade! My darling Magic Meg simply galloped around the world like a majestic unicorn, taking in the trends that were to become oh-so-iconic! It seems like everything had a pop-art flavour to it, from the fashion to the artwork! We saw some simply wonderful pink tutus with little tulle layers! Just fabulous!
The wonderful thing about travelling through time is the way you see history unfold. Seeing it through the eyes of fashion – divine! It truly gives me so much inspiration! It's so fun to watch fashion unfold, don't you think? It seems like it has always been about expressing ourselves in exciting and creative ways!
After New York, I found myself at the Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow. Can you believe that this legendary theatre is celebrating its 250th anniversary?! I have to say, the Bolshoi remains one of my favourite theatres in the whole world – such grandeur and opulence! It was simply electrifying to see the "Giselle" performance that evening – I'm sure even you can imagine what a magnificent spectacle it must have been!
Onwards, I took Meg for a spirited ride around Australia – which seemed to be absolutely abuzz with balletic energy. It seems like the Queensland Ballet were showcasing a stunning production of "The Nutcracker." Can you imagine the magic of those enchanting sets and characters in that part of the world? It must have been utterly bewitching! I did hear about a very interesting modern re-imagining of the story using contemporary dance in one of the local companies there – I wonder what they did with the Sugarplum Fairy? Perhaps they’ll give us a sugar-free rendition, hmm?
Our journey culminated in Paris. It had to, of course! And as always, there was something truly wonderful brewing at the Paris Opera Ballet. You know me, I’m an utter romantic at heart, so naturally, it was a “Romeo and Juliet” production for me! What’s more, they were celebrating their 350th anniversary! Oh, the grandeur, darling! The atmosphere – pure romance and artistic excellence, you understand? We had a most delightful picnic beside the Seine afterward, watching the twilight settle on the city while savoring all that delectable French cheese! Simply divine!
I tell you, there's so much going on in the world of ballet – we're all surrounded by history just waiting to be explored! The history of ballet, that is! What was going on in your world of ballet this week? Do let me know and send in your photos. It’s never too late to learn more, isn’t it? I’d love to read all about your experiences in the comments below. And of course, remember to share this post with your friends. The more we celebrate ballet and its glorious history, the more we encourage more and more wonderful ballet dancers around the world to take on the stage – just like you!
Now darling, do go out there, buy yourself a delightful new tutu – pink, of course – and maybe try your hand at time travel! What could be more exciting, I ask you?
Yours in pink tutus,
Emma
