Hello, my lovely readers! It's Emma here, and you know how much I love time travelling, don't you? This month, I've whisked myself back to June 2000! Let me tell you, the world was a very different place back then. Just picture it: no iPhones, no Instagram, just the sweet symphony of dial-up internet! Imagine that - such a quiet, calm time...almost makes me want to stay here! But the lure of ballet always calls me forward!
Speaking of which, June 2000 was a bumper month for ballet! I'm telling you, my little tutu-clad self was absolutely spoilt for choice, so let's hop aboard Magic Meg (yes, she's got her shimmering, pink hooves polished for this one) and travel the globe, shall we?
Off to the City of Lights - Paris, that is!
I had to make a pilgrimage to Paris - home to the most gorgeous ballet boutiques, where the tutu dreams are made of! Now, let's be honest, fashion and shopping are always a highlight for me, and the chic, stylish boutiques of Paris certainly did not disappoint!
June was the start of the summer season in Paris, and it meant that the City of Lights was alive with dance. Imagine this - the ballets danced under a moonlit sky on Parisian rooftops, the smell of fresh pastries swirling around the stages of prestigious theatres. I could practically hear the whispers of ballerinas gliding across the marble floors, their silk tutus twirling with each pirouette!
But it wasn't all about glamour! In the quiet corners of the city, in charming little studios tucked away on quiet side streets, I saw the spirit of ballet truly alive! Talented dancers poured their heart and souls into each step, each movement. Every studio seemed to have its own unique story to tell.
London Calling!
You know how much I love my home city, London, so of course, I made sure to visit there! You see, in the Royal Opera House, in the month of June 2000, they were performing 'The Sleeping Beauty' by Tchaikovsky! I got myself a front-row seat, darling. Now, imagine my joy!
It was all the magic I'd ever dreamed of, and more! The tutus twirling, the stage lights sparkling, the ballerinas seemingly floating on air! I swear, even Magic Meg was spellbound by the entire performance!
But back in London, I saw something a little different: an innovative street dance troupe. These dancers were telling their own story in the middle of London’s vibrant, bustling city streets! The choreography blended hip-hop, ballet and a splash of storytelling magic that reminded me so much of the power and energy of our modern dance world!
A Whirlwind Tour to New York!
My American adventures always fill me with excitement. This time I found myself transported to a New York ballet scene full of dazzling spectaculars. I must say, the vibrant and dazzling atmosphere in New York felt truly electrifying.
From grand avenues to bustling city squares, there was so much going on! The Broadway productions with their captivating musicals - they just kept getting better with every year! New York always feels like a haven of creativity, and their ballet scene was just as impressive, pushing boundaries with incredible fusion dance styles and breathtaking contemporary choreography!
Of course, New York is famed for its modern ballet scene. It felt as if each dance step in these modern ballets was a statement about life! Bold colours, daring costumes and bold expressions - it made me feel incredibly invigorated, even a bit giddy with the creative energy flowing through the air.
Across the Oceans: Finding Magic in Moscow
Of course, any ballet pilgrimage wouldn't be complete without a trip to Moscow. The city's heart truly belongs to ballet! I visited the renowned Bolshoi Theatre, where I witnessed a beautiful, classical performance, The ballets of Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky and Stravinsky - these names alone spoke volumes. The power of music was in every move, every pose - and the choreography just stole my breath away!
But for all the glamour and tradition, what truly made my heart skip a beat were the stories and the emotion I felt coming through in every single ballet piece. This sense of storytelling is why ballet truly is my favourite form of art. It just speaks to me on so many different levels.
You see, this trip to Moscow reminded me why I travel back in time: to connect to the magic of ballet.
Always Searching For the Pinkest Tutus!
And for a ballet fanatic like me, my favourite memories are those filled with beautiful tutus - a sight I’ve tried my best to capture in my ballet-themed photos throughout my time travel escapades! Imagine, dear readers, all these incredible ballets, and every time a beautiful ballerina graces the stage with a gorgeous pink tutu. It makes me feel absolutely blissful, wouldn't you say?
Every city I visit seems to be bursting with a ballet vibe, a a whirlwind of dance and passion. You know me, I have a keen eye for all the fashion! And I am convinced, my lovelies, that in every decade, in every century, the magic of ballet stays the same - with all that sparkle and glitter! Just watch me, darling! I'm sure in time I can make sure everyone in the world, from the 1800s right up to the 2000s, will wear a pink tutu! And they'll all love it, too, I'm certain.
So until next time, keep your eyes peeled for my next adventures! I’ve already got Magic Meg prepped for the journey. The Pink Tutu's got lots more stories to share! And I'm more than excited about what’s to come!
Stay fabulous,
