Pink Tutu Time Travels: March 2008 - The Romantic Era Resplendent!

Post 4167

Hello darlings! Emma here, your friendly neighbourhood tutu-wearing time traveller, and welcome back to www.pink-tutu.com! It's been a whirl of a month, and trust me, that's a veritable understatement! This month, Magic Meg (my sparkling pink Shire with those magnificent golden hooves and that snowy white mane and tail!) galloped me right back to the Romantic era – and oh my, it was simply breathtaking!

The month of March always evokes feelings of fresh starts and a playful spring in my step, and I found myself transported to 1830, specifically to Paris, the very heart of ballet fashion! The romantic era! Ooh la la! Imagine tutus with flounces upon flounces, soft, billowing fabric in shades of pale peach, sky blue and, naturally, pink! Think tulle, think ribbons, think ethereal beauty. We were truly in the golden age of ballet, my lovelies!

Paris was bursting with elegant cafes, enchanting theatres and of course, the spectacle of the grand ballet! There were tutus and more tutus, all in glorious shades of pink. Think tulle so delicate, it almost felt like spun sugar. It was absolutely divine. Oh, and speaking of sugar… let’s not forget the gorgeous ballet shoes! You know I adore ballet slippers – the satin, the ribbons, the grace! The Romantic era took those elegant necessities to new heights! Imagine slippers with beautiful embroidery and little silk bows adorning each delicate ankle! Honestly, darling, I had to make space in my ballet-filled rucksack to snag some inspiration!

I was particularly charmed by a beautiful Parisian dancer called Marie Taglioni, her dancing was just sublime! Think delicate movements, a graceful swan-like fluidity – she literally redefined how the world saw the ballerina. It's amazing to think how influential she was. You see, in the early 19th century, it was about strength and virtuosity. Think "the ballerina as an athlete." But then Marie Taglioni came along and with a flutter of her tutu, the stage was set for something different. Grace, femininity, lightness. That's how the romantic era in ballet changed the landscape forever.

While in Paris, I happened to catch a performance of the beloved ballet "La Sylphide." Imagine a mythical forest fairy dancing and pirouetteing in a beautiful pastel pink tutu with gossamer-thin ribbons that whispered in the air like soft breezes. Honestly, darlings, it was magical! And who better to witness such a beauty than this pink-tutu loving ballerina?!

Now, I can’t possibly share all the stories from this trip in one post. It would go on forever, darling! But do have a little read of some key highlights in the world of ballet from the month of March, 2008.

The World of Ballet: March 2008
  • American Ballet Theatre (ABT): This month was a real tour de force for ABT. Imagine a ballet feast with classics like “Swan Lake,” "Giselle" (a personal favourite) and a brand new piece from the phenomenal choreographer Alexei Ratmansky! And what a treat to see ABT on tour – it really did elevate the mood!

  • *Royal Ballet: *This wonderful institution was captivating audiences with an exquisite performance of "The Sleeping Beauty," a magical story with elegant dances and intricate costuming.

  • The Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow: Oh, what a treat this was! The Bolshoi played host to an exceptional performance of “Romeo and Juliet," this classic ballet truly shone! The story of love, tragedy and sacrifice never fails to inspire me, I must tell you, darlings! The sheer passion and raw emotion! I almost had to try and do a pirouette, there on the stage, surrounded by all that elegance.

Finding the Perfect Tutu

Back in Derbyshire now, I've been taking the inspiration of this whirlwind tour into my own classes. And what could be better than twirling and spinning in a new tutu?

Now, if you’re thinking of adding some romantic charm to your dance wardrobe, let me give you a little tip from yours truly! Forget about your basic tutu! We’re all about a luxurious, elegant touch. And where can you find that? At a wonderful boutique, naturally! But of course, only the very best for you lovely readers. And you all know what’s at the top of my list: “The Tutu Boutique,” that's where I get most of my tutus from! And darling, when I'm not busy gallivanting through time, you can find me in there, always shopping for new tutus for myself and especially for the “Pink Tutu Club,” because what could be better than everyone getting into their pink tutu’s?! It's what dreams are made of, my loves!

Don’t forget to keep a lookout for my next time travel post. There is so much more ballet to discover from March 2008, and darling, you just know it will be a grand adventure, right?

Happy pirouettes, darling readers!

Until next month,

Emma xx
