Oh darling, hello! I hope this post finds you all twirling in a state of pure ballet bliss. It's Emma here, your ever-so-pink-tutu-clad time-travelling ballerina, ready to whisk you away on another magical journey through history. Buckle up, my loves, because this month we're going right back to the Golden Age of ballet!
Now, I'm sure you're all dying to know where we're going and what we'll be getting up to. Well, hold on tight because this month's adventure sees us back in April 2008. Yes, April 2008! That's right, dear reader, not so long ago, but already feeling like another world in the swirling, beautiful world of ballet!
You might be thinking "Emma, you already wrote about April 2008 last month!" To that, I'd say, "Darling, never too many tutu tales to tell! This month's adventures focus on a very special occasion - The Royal Ballet's production of 'Mayerling'! Oh, my stars! How much I love that production - such raw emotions, a tale told with both passion and poetry. And guess what? The beautiful production is playing at the Royal Opera House, a perfect time to don my most fabulous pink tutu and dance with my dearest Meg, my shire horse with a heart of gold - and a coat to match, just like a golden caramel.
Now, I simply have to tell you about the excitement I felt at The Royal Opera House, London, on this most lovely of nights. The entire house, darling, felt alive with the buzz of a perfect opening night, with excited whispers and gasps at the incredible costumes, oh and did I mention the tutu? I was, naturally, sporting my own custom-designed pink tulle marvel, with an ethereal feel. Imagine swirling it as the dancers took their final bow - such magical movement.
And darling, the sheer artistry of it all - Natalia Osipova, such a star in her own right, took my breath away in her interpretation of Marie Vetsera, so captivating! Carlos Acosta, that dear man, the prince! They were absolutely stunning together, and the whole company was simply phenomenal! You couldn’t help but be swept away by their passion, their dedication, and their incredible skill. Oh, the steps! The artistry! The drama! Every move, every turn, every look, felt imbued with meaning, each gesture resonating with the tragic story they were telling.
But it wasn’t just the ballet itself, though that truly was extraordinary. The evening felt magical from start to finish, an unforgettable blend of beautiful music, extraordinary dance, a taste of Vienna’s grand history - all swirled together like the most magnificent ballerina’s tutu, so delicately crafted and wonderfully decadent!
Fashion Fun at The Opera House
You can always find me making a splash, my darling, where ever I go, even in history. And my arrival was such an event, you can be certain of that! Everyone’s gaze turned to Meg, oh darling she truly stole the show! It's hard not to be drawn to a magnificent, sparkly shire with golden hooves, right? And I? Well, let's just say my pink tutu shone even brighter in the grand ballroom of The Opera House! You’d think everyone would be watching the dancing on stage but they were all turning to admire me and Meg! Oh, and I simply had to make a pitstop at the Royal Opera House’s boutique, because let’s face it, every ballet girl loves some good ballet-inspired fashion, yes? Imagine my excitement at the most divine sparkling sequined clutch I snagged for a steal, a vintage piece perfect for adding just a hint of shimmer to my outfits! It goes so well with my sparkly pink tutu, you can be sure of that!
Now, for a little fashion update for you lovelies. Remember how I love bringing a little ballet magic into your everyday wardrobe? This month, it's all about the little details! Consider a delicate ribbon, in your favorite ballet-inspired hue, tied at your waist with your best white ballerina flats. Or perhaps some graceful pearl earrings that match the delicate twinkle in your eyes when you catch sight of a stunning dancer's tutu on stage. Just remember to twirl with confidence, dear readers, because you were born to dance!
And of course, we can’t talk about the ballet world of April 2008 without mentioning the incredible performances and happenings around the globe. Oh, darling! It’s a real whirl wind, this world of ours! Here’s what else was taking place in this magnificent world of ballet!
- The New York City Ballet was celebrating its anniversary season, with its dancers taking to the stage for some classic productions like the beloved ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’ by Balanchine and Robbins’ masterful 'Afternoon of a Faun', oh the movement! And of course, I just had to snag myself a very special souvenir - a beautiful pink satin scarf with their logo on it. Such a delightful touch for my wardrobe.
- The Royal Danish Ballet were enchanting audiences with the ever-popular "Swan Lake," oh darling such romance! The ballerinas simply took flight!
And darling, remember how I always love to share my travels and ballet memories with all of you? I’ve got some exciting news for this month.
My ballet journey to the heart of the Royal Opera House has led me to stumble upon some fascinating vintage ballet shoes. Such a perfect memory! They're going to be heading home with me and into my very special collection!
Remember, my darlings, there’s always room in life for a little bit of sparkle, for some ballet magic and for more beautiful pink tutus! Now, head to the shops, let's have fun with some ballet inspired fashion and let's remember that everything is more fun in a pink tutu, my loves! Until next month, darlings. And never, never forget to dance!
Lots of twirls,
Emma.
