Pink Tutu Time Travels: April 2010, Post #4192

Hello, darling dears! Emma here, your resident pink tutu-clad time traveller, back with another fabulous trip through the glorious world of ballet history.

April 2010! Oh, what a delightful time to step back into the spotlight. I'm here with my dear friend Magic Meg, our trusty pink-sparkling Shire with the golden hooves and snowy mane and tail. She’s a real dream to ride, especially in this glorious April sunshine, even though it’s a bit breezy here in Derbyshire.

Speaking of breezy, this month’s time travel adventure took us to...drumroll... London, England! Isn't it divine to think about the fabulous history of ballet right here on our very own doorstep? And it was an especially magical time to visit, because it coincided with the opening night of a magnificent performance that is now one of the world's most beloved ballet works - The Sleeping Beauty.

Let’s travel back in time a little, shall we? The year is 1929, the air buzzes with excitement, and London’s Royal Opera House is just getting ready for something truly special. Ninette de Valois – oh, how I admire this incredible woman - is leading the newly founded Vic-Wells Ballet (you may know them as the Sadler’s Wells Royal Ballet now!). This was a revolutionary troupe, taking ballet right into the heart of the everyday world, bringing its beauty to a wider audience. They were pushing boundaries, bringing new energy to the art form, and bringing us The Sleeping Beauty with Frederick Ashton's spectacular choreography, which remains a masterpiece today.

Now, back to the present, shall we? I had a simply enchanting evening at the Royal Opera House – they really do know how to throw a fantastic show, darling! I must say, seeing this timeless ballet live, it felt so wonderfully real!

What’s been exciting me even more is that it's The Sleeping Beauty’s centenary – 100 years old! - this year. And oh, my darling dears, it's truly remarkable to think how this classic continues to enthrall audiences all these years later! It’s a real testament to the power and grace of ballet.

Of course, no time travel adventure is complete without a little shopping trip, and London never fails to impress! I treated myself to a gorgeous vintage dance belt from Harrods - it’s a blush pink, naturally! – and a fabulous new pink ribbon for my hair. It even matches Magic Meg's sparkly pink mane, don’t you think?

While exploring the enchanting shops of London, I stumbled across a wonderful exhibition about Anna Pavlova, one of the greatest ballerinas of all time. She's just simply divine! She even inspired the ballet The Dying Swan, which is truly mesmerising. Now that’s real art, my dears!

So, my darlings, there you have it: a glimpse into the wonderfully fabulous ballet world of April 2010, with its exciting premiere and timeless stories. Until next month, I hope you'll find the magic in your own everyday life – just like a ballet performance always makes me feel!

Oh, and if you're looking to really capture the magic of the ballet world, be sure to visit www.pink-tutu.com! See you next time, darlings!

Yours in pink,

Emma
