Hello my darlings! It's your favourite Derbyshire ballerina blogger, Emma, back with another thrilling escapade from the wonderful world of time travel! I can't believe it's March already – spring is definitely in the air, and I can just feel the urge to twirl! But, before I go prancing off to ballet class in my newest tutu (pink, of course!), I must share with you my latest time-traveling adventures from 2015!
It seems so long ago now! Remember the excitement of seeing a certain Someone on the cover of a certain magazine…but I digress. Where was I? Oh yes! March 2015!
You might be thinking, Why March, Emma? Well, my lovely readers, you see, this is when the glorious "Giselle" took to the stage in the heart of London. I am, of course, talking about the Royal Opera House, where everyone who's anyone in the world of ballet has taken to the boards! My Magic Meg and I galloped through the streets of London (she's a real charmer with those sparkling hooves, isn't she? I can't imagine travelling anywhere without her!).
The atmosphere at Covent Garden was buzzing with anticipation! This wasn't just any production, darling! It was an utterly magical "Giselle", with Marianela Núñez and Steven McRae leading the dance. The dancers' elegance was beyond anything I've ever witnessed. Every pirouette, every grand jeté, it was a poem in motion, and I knew this performance would be etched in my memory forever. I popped my leather rucksack full of programme and ticket stubs, and then we hurried back to Derbyshire in a whirlwind of sparkling pink!
A Touch of Fashion
Speaking of Covent Garden, darling, we couldn't pass up a little retail therapy! And what better place than "The Shop at the Royal Opera House", brimming with exquisitely crafted ballet books, costumes, and even ballerina dolls! The latest ballet fashion, oh my! They had everything - silky pink leotards, elegant shoes, and tutus that would make you gasp! I mean, the sheer variety of colours and designs… They'd tempt a ballerina to wear a new one every single day.
But, don't worry my loves! I’ll always have a special place in my heart for the classic, soft pink tutu – just like yours truly! Speaking of, the pinkest tutu I've seen this month had to be the one worn by the captivating dancers from the "American Ballet Theatre." Remember their show, "The Nutcracker?" It was nothing short of magical! Those delicate pirouettes in their cloud-like pink tutus... just heavenly! I think the delicate colours and tutus are what give ballet that extra element of grace and beauty, don’t you think?
The Power of Ballet
What can I say? I absolutely adore ballet! But it isn't just a pretty performance, darling! There's a real power to it. This month, I went to a performance of the "Russian Ballet Theatre" and the emotions on display just wowed me. A powerful display of raw, graceful energy! And all this brought about a realization - ballet is so much more than just pirouettes and grand jetés! It's about telling stories, evoking emotions, and taking us to new worlds. The strength, flexibility and sheer determination these dancers have, makes me just want to jump right on stage!
I could go on and on about how fantastic this past month was. Just remembering the magic and wonder makes my heart soar, even back here in Derbyshire! You know what? I think a pink tutu would just about do that for anyone, wouldn't it?
*Oh! Nearly forgot... *
Now, darlings, let me tell you about the biggest news this month! The wonderful dancers of the "Royal Ballet", they're preparing to present a fantastic new piece, a masterpiece from Wayne McGregor! He's like a whirlwind of imagination, creating masterpieces in the world of ballet, and with him at the helm, you just know it’s going to be a sensational event! I can't wait to hear your thoughts about the performances!
And now, for my regular roundup! As promised, here are the ballet highlights that kept me hopping in March 2015:
- Royal Ballet – Covent Garden – "Giselle"
- American Ballet Theatre" - "The Nutcracker"
- The Russian Ballet Theatre" – (Performance)
- Wayne McGregor (Royal Ballet Upcoming Production)
Remember my loves, there’s nothing like ballet to transport us to a magical place, filled with grace, beauty, and wonder. So, I say let’s keep our tutus on, our ballet shoes polished, and our hearts open for the next grand adventure!
Till next time! And don’t forget… the world looks much brighter when you’re wearing pink!
