Pink Tutu Time Travels: April 2015! (Blog Post #4252)

Hello my darling dears! Emma here, your favourite pink tutu-clad time-travelling ballerina from Derbyshire. April, the month of new beginnings! Well, that's how I like to think of it, as every month is an opportunity to dust off my sparkling pink tutu, leap onto the back of my trusty steed Magic Meg (she's a shire horse, you know, with golden hooves, a white mane and tail... and, of course, she wears a pink bridle) and take off into the magical world of ballet history.

This month, dear reader, we're venturing to… April 2015! Now, you may be thinking, "Emma, darling, what was so special about ballet in April 2015?” Well, hold onto your pink ballet slippers, my darlings, because April 2015 was jam-packed with ballet-tastic events, fashion and happenings!

I landed in the centre of London (as one always does!), and oh my, what a scene! The streets were alive with the excited chatter of dancers and ballet lovers – it was absolutely delighted! A certain prestigious theatre called The Royal Opera House, had a jam-packed schedule. The English National Ballet was putting on a captivating production of The Sleeping Beauty at the Coliseum, featuring those gorgeous pink and blue costumes - just the kind that inspire my own fashion choices. The Royal Ballet was dazzling audiences with a reimagining of The Rite of Spring, showcasing some very avant-garde movement and costumes that would make a seasoned ballet fan blush. The English National Opera, just a few steps away, was presenting Madame Butterfly, but that was a bit too serious for me, darling, so I decided to spend the evening indulging in some Giselle, with the Royal Ballet. Just so you know, it's always a good time for Giselle, isn't it? The dramatic storytelling and those exquisitely fluid, delicate movements always bring a tear to my eye... And my dance card was brimming!

Before I left London, I made a quick stop at a delightful little ballet shop tucked away near Covent Garden, where I purchased a lovely silk rose in pink to match my ballet shoes - perfect for the spring season. I love collecting these treasures as I travel through time. Of course, all my goodies from past ballet performances get tucked away safely in my leather rucksack – you never know when you’ll need a bit of ballet inspiration, darling!

While London was overflowing with ballet delights, the rest of the world wasn’t resting on their tutus either.

In New York City, the New York City Ballet was showing off some breathtaking contemporary choreography – my favourite choreographer at the moment is Christopher Wheeldon, so naturally I made sure I caught at least one of his works.

Over in Paris, at the iconic Paris Opera Ballet, the most extraordinary production of Swan Lake was taking the stage, all twirling and beautiful white costumes. And I’ve heard that in Moscow, The Bolshoi Theatre, was staging a spectacular version of Don Quixote, filled with passion and fiery choreography! Oh, the stories I collect on my journeys!

Of course, my most important mission in every time period is spreading the love of ballet - and, naturally, the glory of the pink tutu. And wouldn’t you know it? April 2015 was no different! At a charming cafe nestled within the streets of Paris, I met the most enchanting lady - her name is Sylvie, and she designs the most beautiful ballerina outfits! We shared a pot of tea, talked about the history of ballet, and I gave her some inspiration for her next line, incorporating the vibrant hues of my beloved pink. She was quite enchanted with my pink tutu, and even told me that it inspired her to create a new line, with a splash of pink in each of her new designs.

And to top it off, darling, I heard whispers from a passing flock of ballerinas that even American Ballet Theatre in New York City had a brand new pink tutu in their wardrobe, especially created for their star ballerina. What an honour! The world was turning pink one twirl at a time!

Now, I know what you're thinking, my dears. “Emma, how do you fund all this fabulous ballet-related time travelling?” Why, my dears, it’s simple: it's all down to performing! Every time I return from my time-travelling adventures, I grace a local stage with my delightful pink tutu and magical ballet movements. And oh my, the joy of seeing the faces of those enthralled with my performance is enough to keep me twirling forever!

But enough about my journeys, darlings! Now I want to know: Where do you want to go on a time travel ballet adventure? Tell me in the comments below, and perhaps we'll take a spin through the history of ballet together! And remember, never be afraid to express your inner ballerina! The world is a brighter, more beautiful place when everyone wears a pink tutu.

Until next time, my darlings!
