Hello my lovelies, and welcome to another enchanting edition of "Pink Tutu Travels," your monthly dose of all things ballet, time travel, and of course, pink! I'm Emma, your Derbyshire-born ballet enthusiast, and today we're twirling back in time to a fabulous May in 2015!
As always, my trusty steed Magic Meg, a magnificent pink sparkling shire with golden hooves and a flowing mane of pure white, is ready to whisk me away on a journey through history, my leather rucksack prepped to collect the most exquisite ballet memories.
Speaking of memories, May 2015 was bursting with fabulous balletic moments! Remember how the Royal Ballet celebrated its 80th anniversary with a stunning production of "The Sleeping Beauty?" It was an absolute dream, and the costumes! Oh my, they were simply divine. There's nothing quite like seeing the magic of a classic ballet come to life, and the joy radiating from the dancers was infectious.
But this wasn't the only spectacular happening that month. The Bolshoi Theatre was dazzling audiences with "Romeo and Juliet," and let me tell you, the power and passion in those performances were truly unforgettable. There's just something so captivating about the forbidden love story, and the way those ballerinas soared through the air... simply breathtaking.
Then, across the Atlantic in New York City, American Ballet Theatre had a spectacular line-up! "Giselle" stole the hearts of critics and audiences alike. The romantic tragedy, coupled with the phenomenal talent of the dancers, made for a truly moving experience. I was utterly spellbound by the intensity of the performance.
But, as always, my lovelies, it's not just about the big productions, is it? That's why I always try to discover those smaller, hidden gems! And this May, I discovered the most charming performance by the Royal Ballet School's Upper School at Sadler's Wells in London. Young dancers showcasing their talent - such raw talent and enthusiasm, it was like a blossoming flower, and you just knew, they would go on to great things!
Speaking of future stars, a certain ballerina named Misty Copeland was causing a buzz that month. This darling girl became the first African-American female principal dancer at American Ballet Theatre, a groundbreaking achievement and a beautiful reminder that the world of ballet is for everyone!
Back in 2015, I made a trip to the Victoria and Albert Museum in London. The "Ballet: A Century of Style" exhibition was absolutely phenomenal. It was a real time-capsule for ballet fans, featuring gorgeous costumes, iconic photographs, and memorabilia spanning over 100 years! And of course, I added a few of those lovely ballet-themed treasures to my collection.
Of course, no time travel journey would be complete without a bit of fashion, would it? May 2015 was full of exciting trends! The "Balletcore" aesthetic was truly gaining momentum! Think delicate tulle skirts, satin tops, and lots of blush pink! As someone who is completely obsessed with tutus, I found myself wearing ballet-inspired fashion every day!
Now, as we get back to the present, my dear readers, I urge you to wear your tutus with pride, dance freely, and dream big! After all, the beauty of ballet is that it transcends time, so let's make sure it's something we cherish and share, in all its magnificent, twirling glory. Until next time, stay fabulous, and don't forget to sprinkle some magic into your everyday life.
Lots of love,
Emma
