Hello, darlings! It’s Emma here, your friendly neighbourhood pink tutu-clad time traveller! Welcome back to another fabulous post on www.pink-tutu.com!
Today, we're whisking ourselves back to the 12th of December 2015. I can practically hear the festive carols already! December is always a special time for ballet, and this date holds a particular twinkle in my memory… But before we go back in time, let’s chat about some of my most recent adventures. This past week, I have been waltzing with some stunning ballets - and let me tell you, my collection of ballet goodies in my leather rucksack is overflowing with treasures.
Remember last month, I mentioned those incredible diamond earrings I scored at a vintage costume shop in Vienna? Well, they practically glittered in the limelight last week when I danced with the Bolshoi! Such an amazing performance, and those earrings were a total conversation starter, I tell you! But darling, the highlight of my week was definitely getting to meet Dame Darcey Bussell! We talked about all things tutu, and even exchanged some delightful anecdotes about our favourite ballets.
Oh, and the shopping! A vintage store in Paris has opened its doors to my tutu-wearing whims. Imagine my delight when I found the most stunning feathered headpiece, adorned with the most delicate pearls – absolutely perfect for a Parisian waltz!
But back to the topic at hand! As I mentioned, December 12th, 2015, has a special place in my time travel diary. It was a night where some of the most magical ballet stars took to the stage. First on my list was Natalia Osipova. Now, I must say, her performance that night was pure fire! Every plié, every jeté, every fouetté was filled with raw power and incredible grace – utterly breathtaking!
As the evening progressed, I found myself in the heart of London, where I was lucky enough to witness the legend himself, Rudolf Nureyev. Sadly, Rudolf left our earthly stage on this very day in 1993, but his spirit still lives on through his brilliant legacy. His performances, both as a dancer and choreographer, continue to inspire and captivate audiences worldwide. He truly was a star of his era! It was incredibly moving to witness him from the wings of the Royal Opera House, lost in his craft. It truly reminded me how time-less and important ballet is – even when things may feel hectic in our everyday lives, it truly is a refuge and a way to transport ourselves to another world.
But before we get carried away in nostalgia, let's chat a bit about what made December 12th, 2015, so memorable for ballet fans around the world. This date marked the official opening of the Ballet Russe de Monte Carlo, celebrating the art of ballet. Just think – a whole troupe of incredible dancers dedicated to showcasing their artistry.
But darling, it wouldn't be a true pink tutu blog post without talking fashion! The year 2015 saw a resurgence of tutu trends on the runway. Tutus were big that year! Every shade imaginable, but of course, pink remained the leading lady, especially in this era of blush-pink trends. Just like we all need a classic black dress, you absolutely cannot go wrong with a fabulous pink tutu in your wardrobe, it’s my absolute personal staple!
Now, tell me about you! What ballet gems are you digging up this week? Have you got a favourite ballet tutu, darling? Remember, every one of you can rock a tutu, and I want to see photos of your tutu styles! Just share your fab looks using the hashtag #PinkTutuTimeTravel on Instagram and Facebook – let's make the world pink one tutu at a time!
Until next time, stay twirling and embrace the joy of ballet!
Love, Emma
P.S. If you are looking to take a little journey back to December 12th, 2015, consider brushing up on your favourite ballet classics, especially from that time period. Rudolf Nureyev was the real deal, so check out a performance featuring him, if you can, he really will steal your heart! Don't forget, if you're planning to see a show, keep your eyes peeled for a special little something in the vintage store across from the Royal Opera House – that little shop has been my secret ballet fashion haven for ages!
See you all next month on www.pink-tutu.com for my next post - remember, it's only #4260! Until then, may your days be filled with twirls and glitz, darlings!
