Ballet Time Travel Blog: Post #4261 - January 2016

Hello my lovely Tutu Twirlers!

Welcome back to another instalment of my Pink Tutu Time Travel adventures! I'm Emma, your friendly neighbourhood time-travelling ballerina from Derbyshire, and this month, we're going to take a little trip to January 2016.

Flashback Fashion

Now, imagine it. January 2016, the world was abuzz with the latest ballet trends! Oh, how I wish I could show you my own pink tutu wardrobe back then, it was absolutely divine! But even without seeing it, you can practically feel the pink glitter and the fluffy feather boas emanating from this era. Just picture the most delicate, blush-toned tulle, a smattering of iridescent sequins, and enough sparkle to make a disco ball jealous. Honestly, darling, it was perfection!

And, if we're talking fashion, let's not forget the dancers themselves. They were sporting the most incredible costumes. Think bold colour combinations, intricate patterns, and enough shimmering beads to rival a jewellery shop! Remember that vibrant blue, teal and sapphire blue outfit worn by Misty Copeland in "Firebird"? You simply can't get more fabulous! And, don't even get me started on the makeup โ€“ swoon-worthy! Dramatic winged eyeliner, shimmering blush, and a touch of cherry-red lipstick โ€“ it was all about accentuating the face, adding a touch of mystery, and showcasing the absolute magic of the dance.

Around the World in a Pink Tutu

January 2016 saw some amazing performances taking place all over the world. Did you know that in Paris, the Paris Opera Ballet was performing "Le Lac des Cygnes" - the most majestic, classic ballet of them all! Across the Atlantic, the New York City Ballet was bringing "Romeo and Juliet" to life, a true love story full of tragedy and tenderness, a timeless classic in its own right. And over in Russia, the Bolshoi Theatre was hosting an impressive double bill of "Giselle" and "Don Quixote", showcasing the incredible skills of the Bolshoi dancers. Oh, I just wish I could have been there to witness all the grace and passion myself!

Of course, January 2016 wasn't just about ballet premieres. It was also about smaller performances, those hidden gems in little theatres and schools, the ones that make you truly believe in the power of dance. It was about those intimate evenings, the sheer joy of watching talented dancers weave their stories, their emotions, their hearts through every step and twirl.

Riding Through Time With Meg

This month, I travelled on Magic Meg, my pink-sparkling Shire horse. Her hooves gleam like polished gold, and her mane and tail are a magnificent, flowing white cascade. Honestly, she's the most majestic creature, and it's a true joy riding through the corridors of time with her! She was absolutely mesmerized by the 2016 world, even pawing at the sparkling street lamps as we made our way through the bustling streets of Paris.

As always, I brought my trusty leather rucksack filled with treasures and tales from my trip. I found a beautifully embroidered pair of ballet slippers from a London dance academy, a hand-drawn programme for the Paris Opera's performance, and even a little note I left for myself about how stunning the dancers looked at the Bolshoi! Honestly, you wouldn't believe the amount of lovely ballet things you can find in the past!

It's About Sharing the Love of Pink

But here's the thing, dear Tutu Twirlers, travelling through time is only half the fun. It's sharing these stories and adventures that makes it all worthwhile. I love finding out about your favourite ballerinas and ballets, and I truly believe in the power of pink tutus to spread happiness and creativity across the world.

So, tell me! Have you had any exciting ballet experiences this month? What were you watching? What did you wear? Do share your thoughts in the comments below, because, for me, every story, every dance, every pink tutu moment, is a special little adventure in itself.

Until next time,

Emma
