Hello my darlings! Welcome back to Pink-Tutu.com, where every month we hop on Magic Meg and gallivant through time, discovering the wonders of ballet from across the ages. Today, we're journeying back to the vibrant month of September in the year 2016, a date that holds a special place in my heart (and my pink tutu collection!).
As you all know, September is a glorious time for ballet. The summer heat has subsided, autumn leaves begin their magical transformation, and the new ballet season kicks off in style! For me, there’s nothing more delightful than donning my favourite pink tutu and heading out to see a new production or visit a fabulous ballet boutique.
This September, we’re diving headfirst into a whirlwind of balletic beauty. We’re visiting the grand stages of New York, Moscow, and even taking a trip to Paris, soaking up the elegance and the enchantment of the ballet world!
A Week of Whimsy in New York
Our adventure starts in the dazzling metropolis of New York City, a city where glamour and grace go hand in hand. This September, the New York City Ballet were premiering “The Ballets of the 20th Century: Robbins, Balanchine and Jerome Robbins’ The Four Seasons.” Can you imagine?! My inner ballerina nearly burst with excitement.
Imagine me, twirling my way down Broadway in my custom-made pink tutu (this one has a shimmering silver overlay, just exquisite!), eyes sparkling with the anticipation of seeing such legendary works.
Then, there was the fabulous Metropolitan Opera. The season opened on September 26th with the Romeo and Juliet, and I must tell you, darlings, I absolutely loved every moment of it. It felt as though the story had been especially crafted for our September adventure. It was truly a love story for the ages.
A Parisian Pas de Deux
Next up on our September soiree, it’s Paris, the city of lights, fashion, and, yes, you guessed it - fabulous ballet! The Paris Opera Ballet, always a darling in my book, hosted an array of spectacular performances, and I had the most magical time. My pink tutu, this time, was an enchanting, ruffled creation that looked as though I had walked straight out of a ballet in the Moulin Rouge. Just picture it, my darlings, a pink tutu so breathtaking it was fit for a Parisian soirée!
I particularly enjoyed "Cendrillon," by Benjamin Millepied, that was performed at the Palais Garnier. I always say, every girl has her own Cendrillon story. Seeing it, here, in the magical Parisian Opera House made my dreams come true. Imagine twirling with Prince Charming...
Moscow Marvels
And no time-travelling journey would be complete without a visit to the heart of ballet: Moscow. My pink tutu and I travelled all the way to the legendary Bolshoi Theater. The stage shimmered under the lights. The performance was phenomenal. Moscow's ballet companies are known worldwide for their artistry, and here, September played host to “A Star is Born - A Gala Evening at the Bolshoi Theatre,” featuring legendary performers. This gala was, without a doubt, an unforgettable experience, leaving my spirit soaring high, like a prima ballerina in the air!
Back in Derbyshire... but my spirit never left the stage
I’m back home in Derbyshire now, Magic Meg, my shimmering pink shire horse, is enjoying the calmness of our countryside. But my heart is still dancing with the memories of those fabulous shows.
And, my darlings, my travels aren’t over yet. The September ballet calendar is brimming with events, from workshops to dress rehearsals and performances all across the globe! I’ll be sure to share those highlights with you all in my next post.
For now, I’m going to sit back, relax with a cup of tea, and continue adding to my treasured ballet collection - I always pick up souvenirs from my trips, a delicate feather boa from Paris, a Bolshoi program from Moscow, or maybe even a piece of shimmering costume from a performance.
But don’t think that your ballet journeys have to stop at my pink-tutu travels. Keep an eye out for local ballet events near you. Pick up a program, meet some fabulous dancers, or simply take in the beauty of a dance. It’s about embracing the magic, my darlings, just as I have always strived to do!
And if you’re brave enough to take your love for ballet to the next level, I urge you to give the pink tutu a go!
Stay beautiful and stay dancing,
Emma
