Pink Tutu Travels: August 2018 - A Peek at 19th Century Paris

Hello my lovelies! Welcome back to Pink-Tutu.com, where we take a whimsical journey through time, one tutu at a time. This month, I'm thrilled to share with you all about my latest adventure, back to August 2018! As always, my trusty steed, Magic Meg, was by my side - a beautiful pink Shire with glistening golden hooves, her flowing white mane and tail catching the sunlight as we galloped through the ages.

It feels like a lifetime ago that I was flitting through the cobbled streets of 19th Century Paris! This is always a highlight of my travels. Just imagining the glamour, the swirling skirts of ballerinas and the incredible creativity of that time... well, it sets my heart alight.

So, let’s start with my first stop: the Opéra Garnier. Built in 1875, this opulent, iconic Parisian landmark is where the ballet world's finest gathered. The air thrummed with the excitement of opening night - a shimmering, spectacular performance of “La Bayadère,” set to the music of Ludwig Minkus.

Oh, to be a Parisian ballet enthusiast back then! It wasn’t all about the beautiful dance and drama, of course, but the whole spectacle! Just imagine - the luxurious boxes filled with elegant women and dapper gentlemen, all resplendent in their finery, chattering with excitement and admiration as they witness the "je ne sais quoi" of ballet's greatest talents!

It got me thinking about my own ballet wear. As I usually do, I'd packed my tutu - of course - in my leather rucksack, this time a classic pink tulle creation with silver accents. The delicate fabric whispered softly as I strolled through the foyer, the perfume of eau de Cologne filling the air and reminding me that I wasn't just on the periphery, but actually a part of this exciting, historic moment!

Speaking of the "periphery," August 2018 wasn’t only a time of magnificent productions in grand theatres - the ballet was blooming everywhere! In cafes, public gardens, even the streets, impromptu performances and rehearsals added a touch of magic to daily life.

After catching my breath after the spectacular performance at the OpĂŠra, I joined a "pas de deux" on a sunny terrace. The cobblestone danced beneath my pink ballet shoes as we swirled to the music of a charming accordionist. The Parisian sun lit up the dancing, while a chattering crowd sipped their wine, enthralled.

One thing I love most about travelling to this period is the fascination with everything "French." The Parisians, they're just so effortlessly chic! I found myself mesmerized by the beautiful silk gowns and feathered hats adorning the women. Their elegance was contagious and reminded me that even without tutus, one can still possess a certain "ballerina je ne sais quoi."

Back at my Parisian hotel, tucked away on a cobbled side street, I carefully packed away the memories of the day. There was the hand-drawn poster advertising “La Bayadère” - just a delicate whisper of an echo of that grand, shimmering production. I found myself sketching a whimsical Parisian ballerina, complete with pink tutu, dancing amidst Parisian rooftops - the Parisian city lights twinkling in the background. It’s in my rucksack, ready for my blog!

For those of you reading this on Pink-Tutu.com, it's a reminder that history is bursting with stories - tales of elegance, grace, passion, and dreams brought to life on stage. Wherever you find yourself today, remember you, too, are a part of this glorious story! And remember, my lovelies, the most magical outfits aren't just reserved for the stage - let the world be your stage and embrace your inner ballerina with a fabulous, twirly, pink tutu!

Don’t forget, keep coming back to Pink-Tutu.com for the next month, where we’ll take our next thrilling ballet adventure.

This was blog post 4292 - I hope you enjoyed my travels and are inspired by the wonders of ballet throughout the ages!

Until next time, happy dancing, my dear lovelies!

Your ballet time traveller,
Emma xx
