Pink Tutu Time Travels: A Look at August 2019 – Post Number 4304

Hello lovelies, and welcome back to Pink Tutu Time Travels! It’s been a scorcher of a summer in Derbyshire, and I've been making the most of it. However, I couldn’t resist a trip through time with my darling Magic Meg! I can’t let the allure of August 2019 slip by – this was a month for the ballet world, with a sprinkle of exciting events. And let me tell you, I’m already planning a fabulous fashion piece inspired by them all!

Time Travel Tips:

Before I start gushing about August, I just wanted to remind you darlings of a few essentials for time travel:

  • The Tutu: It’s crucial for maintaining my connection with the time vortex. After all, a girl has to look fabulous while traversing through time, don’t you think? My trusty pink tutu with its layers of tulle and delicate bows always makes me feel confident and ready for adventure!
  • Magic Meg: No journey is complete without a magnificent steed, and my faithful Magic Meg is the best in the business. Her pink sparkles are guaranteed to cause a stir, and her hooves always land softly, ensuring we don’t ruffle any feathers (figuratively speaking, of course!)
  • Leather Rucksack: Filled to the brim with vintage ballet paraphernalia and precious historical tidbits. My collection of tutus from across the centuries is already overflowing!

Let’s Talk Ballet!

So, back to August 2019! It seems this month was buzzing with captivating performances across the globe, and I managed to see them all - well, almost! Here’s my little glimpse into the ballet world of 2019:

New York City: American Ballet Theatre kicked off August with a stunning production of ā€œManonā€! I had the privilege of watching the elegant Misty Copeland soar across the stage as the tragic heroine. You could practically feel her emotions dancing in every delicate pliĆ© and powerful arabesque.

London Town: Across the pond in my beloved London, the Royal Opera House was hosting a vibrant ā€œLa BayadĆØreā€. The vibrant colours and opulent costumes transported me to a dreamland filled with mystery and love! The Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow was also on fire with a mesmerising rendition of ā€œSwan Lakeā€.

The Spotlight:

Did you know September 2019 saw the opening of the ā€œTutu: A Celebration of Danceā€ exhibition at The Victoria and Albert Museum in London? I’m already planning a return trip to see it – imagine, a whole museum dedicated to the epitome of elegance, the beautiful tutu!

From Past to Present:

Oh, the stories my rucksack is overflowing with! In August 2019, Misty Copeland became the first African-American principal dancer at American Ballet Theatre. A real testament to dedication and talent! But did you know that a decade earlier, in 2009, she made history by becoming the first African-American to perform as a principal ballerina in a leading role? Talk about breaking boundaries and defying expectations!

From my Vintage Collection: Did you know that the original ā€œpink tutuā€ concept dates back to the early 19th century? I found a stunning lace creation from 1820 that made its way into my rucksack during a trip to Paris. You’ll find photos of it on www.pink-tutu.com along with a deep dive into the history of this beloved style.

The Future is Pink!:

My time-travelling adventures continue to inspire me! My latest creation is a ā€œ2019 Reimaginedā€ tutu, complete with vibrant floral prints and layers of tulle inspired by the ballet fashion seen during my August 2019 jaunt. Stay tuned for its debut on the www.pink-tutu.com website. And don’t forget my fashion show in November! All proceeds will go to supporting young dancers. It’s always an absolute joy to see young people fall in love with the magic of ballet!

Final Thoughts:

August 2019 was a dazzling month for ballet! As a lifelong ballet lover, I feel eternally grateful for this magical art form.

But enough about me - tell me about your love for ballet! I’m always keen to hear what brings you joy. Don't forget to visit the www.pink-tutu.com website, and tell your friends about my work!

And remember, you can never have too many tutus!

With twirls and kisses, Emma xx
