The twinkling lights of Christmas are already being hung in Derbyshire, and my little corner of the world is feeling oh so festive.
Itâs the perfect time to dust off our favourite tutus and celebrate the magic of ballet! This month, we're focused on whatâs happening in the world of ballet right now. Iâm so excited to share all the thrilling new performances, captivating costumes, and amazing stories happening on stages around the world.

Oh, Christmastime is simply divine for ballet lovers! Theaters across the globe are shimmering with festive shows that make my tutu flutter with delight. Letâs dive in and explore the wonders awaiting us this December:
The Nutcracker: The absolute crème de la crème of Christmas ballet is always the enchanting Nutcracker. From London's Royal Opera House to New York City Ballet, and even right here in Derbyshire, the ballet world explodes with dazzling sugarplum fairies, mischievous mice, and the glorious battle of toy soldiers. This classic never fails to make my heart skip a beat â and thereâs nothing like the magic of the snow scene. Simply breathtaking!
Swan Lake: I do love a good fairytale ballet, and Swan Lake never fails to tug at my heartstrings. Itâs such a captivating story, with Odette, the graceful swan, and Odile, her manipulative twin. With costumes that sparkle like a thousand stars, this production is the epitome of beauty and grace, perfect for a truly magical Christmas.
Sleeping Beauty: Now, this is a ballet for the true romantics! The dreamy costumes and fairytale story will enchant you as you journey with Aurora and her loyal friends. There are some truly amazing productions this month, and I've heard that some are even experimenting with new and innovative ways to reimagine the traditional Sleeping Beauty story!
A Fashionable Flair:
The costumes! Oh my goodness, the costumes! December 2022 is positively bursting with sartorial elegance and eye-catching designs. Think shimmering tutus in deep crimson, emerald greens that speak of winterâs beauty, and, of course, my beloved pinks! The use of glittering sequins and feather trims brings an extra touch of sparkle and takes every design to the next level. Iâm definitely adding these beauties to my âinspiration boardâ for my next collection!
