Hello my lovelies! It's Emma here, and oh my goodness, is it April already? I just adore this month, with its sunshine peeking through the clouds and the promise of spring blooming. It's the perfect time for ballet, don't you think?

This month, Magic Meg and I are taking a special trip back in time, to explore a wonderful moment in ballet history!

And remember, darling dears, my goal is to get everyone dancing in pink tutus! So be sure to grab your twirly skirts and let's hop onto Magic Meg!

A Time Traveller's Journey Through Ballet History

Every month I travel back in time, learning and sharing fascinating tales of ballet history! Today, my journey leads us to April of this very special year, 2024, for an amazing dive into the world of ballet!

April 2024: A Ballet Buzz

This April, the ballet world is brimming with excitement! From stunning premieres to acclaimed productions, the international stage is abuzz with talent and creativity! Let's have a look!

A Ballet Blast in Derbyshire, England

Here in my home county of Derbyshire, the stage at The Curve is set for an exceptional production of "The Nutcracker." The renowned ballerina, Anya Petrova, stars as Clara, and it promises to be magical! My very own Derbyshire Dance Studio is also hosting their annual spring showcase, "Twinkle Twinkle Little Stars," and I'm simply thrilled for these young dancers, each shining brighter than the next.

A Ballet Buzz Around the World

My oh my! This April is full of fantastic ballet moments happening across the globe! In the heart of London, the Royal Opera House is ablaze with the passionate flamenco of "Carmen," starring the talented dancer, Francesca Carli. Meanwhile, across the Atlantic in New York, the New York City Ballet is presenting a new work by acclaimed choreographer Justin Peck, “The Times Are Racing” and it is generating so much excitement! In Paris, the Opéra Garnier will host a grand production of "Swan Lake," with renowned prima ballerina Marie-Agnes Gillot, and in Tokyo, The National Ballet of Japan is presenting a spectacular adaptation of "Cinderella," which will be a magical fairytale.

Ballet Fashion Inspiration

Every month I make sure to pick up something gorgeous for my ballet collection - be it a dazzling costume, a sparkling accessory, or a breathtaking photo of a ballerina, and this month was no exception.

  • I bought a vintage photo from a little shop in Derby, capturing the incredible artistry of Marie Rambert in a mesmerizing, vibrant tutu from "The Lady of the Camellias."
  • My Parisian ballet-chic outfit arrived this month, featuring a beautiful pale pink chiffon tunic with a black sequined sash.

You know, sometimes, finding the perfect pink tutu for the perfect occasion can feel like a magical treasure hunt! It's part of the adventure, isn’t it, darling?

A Blast from the Past: April in Ballet History!

My dear friends, I believe history has much to teach us. This April in the past is no different!

  • In April 1895, Sergei Diaghilev, the influential founder of the Ballets Russes, was born. The Ballets Russes would go on to revolutionize the art of ballet. This is truly an amazing legacy to have achieved, I can't imagine having such a lasting impact on the ballet world!

  • Just a year later, in 1946, Margot Fonteyn was chosen by Frederick Ashton as the first soloist of the Sadler’s Wells Ballet! (A dream role, indeed). Fonteyn would later become a prima ballerina, famous for her artistry and graceful movements. She is still such a source of inspiration for me!

Fashioning Our Futures with Pink Tutues!

You know my heart, my lovelies. I adore pink! My passion for ballet and pink tutus runs deep. It's an exciting mission I'm on to get everyone in pink tutus! And, this April, let's get those skirts twirling and spread the pink ballet love across the globe.

What ballet show are you attending this April? What is your favourite ballet outfit, and do you have any pink tutus you would like to share with me?

Join Me in Pink Tutu Travels

Don't forget, lovelies! Magic Meg and I are heading to the Ballet Academy of Derbyshire on Saturday for their annual tea party - a pink-tutu delight! And, we'll be posting all about it, including loads of amazing photos and videos!

Until next time, my darling ballet fans, keep on dancing!

Yours in pink and tutus, Emma
