Hello darlings! It's Friday, which means it's time for another instalment of Pink Tutu Blog London! This week, I've taken a little trip from my home in Derbyshire, all the way down to London, a place that always fills me with such a thrilling sense of possibility.
I swear, the sound of a train pulling into a station still sends shivers down my spine. It's like a grand opening for adventures, and that's exactly how I feel whenever I hop on board, tutus flowing behind me. For this journey, I've opted for a pink and white polka-dot tutu that twirls like a carousel! I must admit, I had to adjust my usual travelling ensemble for a bit more practicality for the trip - after all, it's a bit hard to negotiate crowded train stations in a towering stack of heels, wouldn't you agree? But fret not, my pink Converse were the perfect answer! (Of course, paired with a pink cardigan for warmth, as always.)
Speaking of practicality, I've learned over the years that good organisation is key for any city break, especially one in bustling London. That's why I packed my signature pink ballet bag – filled with my essentials: a ballet journal for jotting down all my brilliant fashion ideas, a lipstick to keep those lips pouty perfect, and a well-worn copy of The Nutcracker, for inspiration! (I'm sure many of you understand my attachment to a good fairytale – especially with such a dramatic finale!)
Arriving in London – The Excitement is Contagious!
From the moment I stepped onto the platform, it was all I could do to hold back the joyous cries of a girl reunited with her beloved city. London feels like a dear old friend – full of charm, mischief, and a certain sense of magic that I simply adore. There’s this buzz in the air, like electricity running through my fingertips, that only London seems to hold.
This weekend, my mission is to see and do it all! There are a few exciting performances to check out, starting with…
Ballet at The Royal Opera House!
Of course, my first port of call was to The Royal Opera House. A quintessential London experience for any ballet enthusiast like myself. There was an air of excitement hanging around the building as I wandered inside, just waiting to take in the magic! As soon as I took in that breathtaking golden hall, I knew I was in for something extraordinary. Tonight’s performance is a world premiere by the Royal Ballet – I won’t reveal any spoilers, but I’m already giddy with anticipation! I expect nothing less than a flawless production, perfect lighting, and dancers who fly across the stage like swans gliding across a lake! The entire experience leaves me feeling invigorated and, dare I say, slightly addicted to the pure art form!
London Fashion Week – A Ballet Dancer's Dream
After a quick costume change – yes, darling, a new tutu is a must for every new adventure! (Pink sequins this time!) I popped over to the London Fashion Week hub to catch some shows. Fashion week is always a real spectacle. Seeing the designers' creations, all those vibrant colors and intricate details… It really ignites the fire in my own artistic soul!
As someone who loves ballet, I can't help but be drawn to the parallels between the worlds of fashion and ballet. Both are artistic expressions of beauty and grace, where movement, form and flow become powerful storytellers. This is something I like to explore in my blog, and I can't wait to show you all some new outfit inspiration from my London escapade!
Tea and Treats: Finding the Sweetest Side of London
Of course, no trip to London would be complete without a bit of quintessential English indulgence. I headed to a little cafe tucked away in Notting Hill called "The Secret Garden," where the tea was brewed perfectly and the cream cakes tasted divine. Honestly, I'm starting to believe the whole “Afternoon Tea” thing isn’t just a fad; it’s an experience. It's that perfectly balanced sweet treat to make your day complete! The dainty sandwiches, perfectly brewed teas, and those gorgeous miniature cakes… it's a bit of London magic bottled in a teapot!
Evening Stroll: A Bit of Romantic London Magic
I ended the day with a walk through Hyde Park. As the sun began to set, casting a golden glow across the greenery, London transformed. This was my chance to simply be present, feeling the energy of the city seep into my soul, watching the last of the golden light dance on the leaves. It’s a truly charming, almost magical atmosphere that’s all my own! There's something about this part of the city, and the way the sun dips into the evening that is oh so incredibly romantic, that only adds to the magical day I’ve had.
A Peek into Pink Tutu’s Wardrobe!
For any new readers who are curious about how a ballet dancer who loves to travel dresses: it's really about creating a perfect balance between femininity and practicality.
I'm always experimenting with outfits that make me feel powerful and beautiful, all while staying true to my love for the colour pink and all things twirly. It's also important to consider where I'll be going and what I’ll be doing. My go-to style formula is a pink tutu paired with statement heels, some chunky jewelry and my signature blush lipstick. The beauty is, I can play with textures, add or take away pieces, and create an ensemble that matches my mood, location and activity. I might dress it down with a comfortable cardigan or sweater on train days and opt for something a little more sparkly and eye-catching for a night out at the theatre!
For instance, yesterday, I paired a light-pink silk tutu with white pointed pumps, adding a dash of bright pink eyeliner for a pop of color! I know it's not the traditional 'ballet' look, but I’m all about celebrating the power of expressing your own unique style – which of course includes adding a dash of the colour pink wherever you go!
Sharing my Passion with the World!
Now, my sweet readers, you may be wondering, “What is it about pink tutus that makes them so special? Why this entire pink tutu world?”
Well, I truly believe that the perfect tutu holds the key to unlocking a world of joy, creativity and confidence. You just have to allow yourself to embrace the playful, magical aspect of wearing a pink tutu. You're taking on a playful persona! One that encourages expression, whether it’s twirling down the street or adding some fun to a drab, boring day!
As much as I adore ballet, I also enjoy using it as inspiration for my life off-stage. For me, it’s all about being free and letting your heart guide you. A pink tutu, a little confidence and a healthy dose of pink lipstick can do wonders for finding that joy, no matter what your journey.
Remember: Don't just wear the pink tutu; embrace the pink tutu!
And finally, some exciting news… For this month, Pink Tutu is giving away a signed copy of my ballet journal, “Dancing with Pink!” All you need to do is share your favourite tutu outfit on social media using #PinkTutuBlogLondon and tag me!
That's it for this week's Pink Tutu Blog London. Remember, you can always find more of my adventures on www.pink-tutu.com, where I post every Friday.
