Hello, my lovely Tutu-istas! Welcome back to my weekly London blog, where I bring you all the pinkest, twirliest, most fashionable adventures from the capital city. This week is extra special - it's a Friday! I don't know about you, but I always feel a little extra sparkle in the air on a Friday, like a million tiny tiaras have just been shaken around. And when Friday meets London, it's practically a confetti cannon of excitement!
This week's escapade starts with the familiar, comforting rhythm of the train tracks. I'm coming in from Derbyshire, my lovely little corner of England. It's a bit of a trek, but worth every minute. As soon as the London skyline comes into view, it feels like the entire world opens up - all those dazzling buildings, those iconic landmarks...it’s like being in a fairytale!
This trip, I've got my lucky, cherry-pink tutu on, paired with my trusty black ballet pumps and a little polka dot dress I just had to get from my favourite vintage boutique. London always inspires my fashion, it’s an ever-changing rainbow of ideas, each window a little vignette of creative genius!
First stop - a ballet class, naturally!
Because, let's face it, London is the stage for some of the greatest ballets in the world. I’m lucky enough to be taking classes at the Royal Ballet School this week, learning from some of the most incredible dancers in the world. It's a bit like stepping back in time – beautiful old studios filled with elegant students. This week's routine was something called ‘pas de deux,’ a challenging but oh-so-beautiful duet. I feel like a queen twirling under the chandelier.
After class, it's time for a bit of a lunch break! London’s full of lovely cafes and bistros, but for a proper Friday treat, you can’t beat a cream tea in a gorgeous vintage-looking cafe. That perfectly-baked scone, fresh strawberry jam, clotted cream and strong, fragrant tea? You wouldn’t believe the magic this does for your inner ballerina! It’s the perfect energy boost to keep me going all afternoon!
The magic of a London matinee
This Friday, I was lucky enough to nab a ticket for a matinee performance at the Sadler’s Wells Theatre - a ballet performance that had me truly enthralled. A young choreographer was presenting their piece and the dance had such incredible artistry and emotional depth. I actually shed a happy tear, that’s the kind of magic that makes the ballet so special! It was everything I hoped for and more - from the exquisite costuming to the expressive dancing, it left me speechless and buzzing with creative inspiration!
Later, I found myself exploring Covent Garden, that gorgeous, cobbled piazza of an area just bursting with the energy of the West End. I loved browsing through all the flower stalls, and found a pretty bloom for my hair. Feeling utterly inspired by my afternoon at Sadler’s Wells, I ventured into the Royal Opera House, for a peek behind the velvet curtain of this legendary theatre! Imagine - standing on the stage, feeling the hum of the audience, seeing the world of art unfolding just a foot away. I could practically feel the thrill of the opening night!
The West End in the late afternoon is magic! With every lamppost glowing softly and the theatre signs beaming their own vibrant light, it's like stepping into a magical movie set. After my stroll, I decided to indulge in some London treats. A hot chocolate and some pastries from a charming little cafe gave me a warmth and energy I didn't know I needed. But who can resist a bit of pampering when it's a Friday evening in London!
Pink Tutu Fashion in London
A Friday in London wouldn’t be complete without some shopping therapy! I love trawling through all the vintage clothing shops and quirky boutiques. London has an amazing fashion scene, with everything from high-end couture to unique vintage finds. I found a beautiful vintage handbag and a gorgeous pair of ballet flats with a silver sparkly strap. They are practically dancing around my feet! They're the perfect touch of sparkle for a busy London weekend.
A pink tutu needs a stylish wardrobe and accessories. You can never have too many pretty things! And what’s better than a trip to a famous London department store like Liberty or Harrods? So, of course, I couldn't resist a trip for a peek, and perhaps a treat for my pink tutu-clad self. After all, we both deserve to be spoilt every now and again!
Sharing the pink tutu joy
But my favourite thing about a Friday in London? Meeting my tutu friends! As part of my mission to get the entire world in a pink tutu, we all met up for a casual dinner, reminiscing about the day's adventures. Over a lovely vegetarian pasta and sparkling grape juice (yes, we can even be healthy ballerinas!), I had the most inspiring chats, discussing future events, fashion finds, and everything pink and twirly in between.
Today has been a perfect example of why I love London. This city always inspires, from the magnificent architecture, to the fascinating art scene, and those friendly locals. London, with all its sparkling lights and dazzling avenues, is a city that embraces all, from dancers to shoppers to fashionistas! And I, for one, am eternally charmed.
Don’t forget, my lovely tutu fans! Catch up with me again next week when I'll be sharing even more London adventures right here on www.pink-tutu.com.
Until next Friday, keep twirling!
Lots of love, Emma xo
