Hey my lovely Tutu-ers!
It's Friday again, which means it's time for another London adventure, brought to you by yours truly, Emma, the Pink Tutu Queen! This week, I'm fresh off the train from Derbyshire, ready to paint the town pink (metaphorically, of course, though a pink tutu does add a splash of colour, don't you think?)
This Friday, London was calling! It's funny, but the city feels so alive on Fridays - the energy is buzzing, and it feels like everyone is ready to embrace the weekend with open arms. I was ready to soak it all up, and, of course, my trusty pink tutu was by my side, twirling alongside me. ?
The Great Train Journey
Now, for all my tutu-wearing travel lovers out there, I know you'll agree: train journeys are truly a joy. Not only are they a fabulous excuse to rock a fab outfit, but they also provide the perfect backdrop for people-watching and enjoying a cuppa. This week's journey was extra special – I saw a man wearing a bright yellow suit with a fluffy pink boa around his neck, a woman reading a book about Victorian tea parties (because of course, who doesn't love a good Victorian tea party?!), and a group of school children who seemed completely mesmerised by the scenery passing by their window. All of them, in their own way, contributed to the charming tapestry of everyday life that unfolded outside my train window.
Pink Palace on the Piccadilly Line
The train dropped me right in the heart of London, and after a quick spin around the bustling station, I found myself on the Piccadilly Line. The tube can be a bit of a challenge when you're wearing a tutu (not everyone is as used to seeing the magic of a twirling pink tutu as I am, bless their cotton socks!) but hey, it’s all part of the adventure. The best part is that the train makes me feel like I'm riding through a secret passage, leading me deeper into the heart of London.
A Spot of Vintage Shopping
You can't come to London without indulging in some seriously good shopping! So, my first stop was in a delightful little vintage shop on Portobello Road, filled with everything from glamorous 1950s frocks to funky 1980s neon accessories. The place was a true treasure trove – you never know what hidden gems you might discover! Of course, I had to snag a few things for my wardrobe. How can you resist a sequined scarf or a feather boa, both of which pair wonderfully well with a pink tutu? (I know, I know, you're probably saying “Emma, you wear that pink tutu with everything”, but it's truly the most versatile garment in my wardrobe!)
Dinner with a Twist
No London trip is complete without a delicious meal! My evening treat was a gastronomical masterpiece - a Moroccan feast with a hint of cinnamon and spice. I tried to keep my tutu clean while navigating the exotic dishes (not always easy, but my ballet training helps!), and I even managed to find a Moroccan lamp that looked like it had come straight from a fairytale - a perfect souvenir for my little ballerina sanctuary.
London Theatre Lights
Of course, no London visit is complete without a theatre show! Friday's highlight was a dazzling ballet performance, the story of Swan Lake set in an enchanting fairytale world, filled with intricate costumes and passionate dance routines. Oh, how I adore those swans! I even met a group of budding young ballerinas backstage – all dreams and hopeful pink tutus. I could tell they'd be dazzling in their own pink tutus someday soon! The energy was so exciting; the laughter and whispers mingled with the soft melodies of the music, making the whole experience a pure dream.
Pink Tutu Inspiration
It’s Friday night and the London streets are alive. And what is better than enjoying the bright lights of the West End on a crisp evening after a delightful theatre performance? Not much. To capture it all, I pulled out my little camera (it’s surprisingly easy to hold your camera while twirling in a tutu – practice makes perfect!) and snapped photos to inspire my fellow Tutu-ers, all of whom will undoubtedly feel this beautiful, bold London energy radiating from them. Remember, darlings: every single one of you is worthy of being a Tutu-er.
A Tutu-ful Farewell
So, that’s it, Tutu-ers! My Friday London adventures have ended, leaving a sprinkle of glitter and a whirlwind of happy memories in their wake. Now, I’m back on the train, heading home to Derbyshire. I know the tutu will be waiting for me, with my slippers next to it, ready to lead me back into my ballet classes. And you know what? I'll be right back here next Friday, ready for another London adventure. Keep those pink tutus twirling, and never forget: we all have the power to be a little bit glamorous every single day!
See you all next Friday!
Love, Emma, The Pink Tutu Queen.

Pink Tutu Time Capsule: February 27th, 1998
February 27th, 1998 was a rather special day, not just because it was my birthday (happy birthday, Emma!) but because of the iconic events taking place across London, and across the world. Let’s go back in time!
- London Calling: On this very date in 1998, the band Blur released their album "13." Their record became an instant success, setting a record for album sales for the band, and quickly catapulting it into the spotlight in the UK. And a good record deserves to be danced to, of course, so you could imagine me, little pink tutu in tow, listening to it with my ballerina friends. (My birthday, and a Blur album? What could be better!)
- Fashion-Forward: 1998 was a big year for fashion, with trends spanning from oversized glasses and baggy pants, to playful neon colours, bold patterns, and of course, the ever-so-trendy grunge aesthetic, with band tees and denim jackets a must-have for any fashion-forward teen (me included). Don’t be fooled, though, those grunge aesthetics still held a place for sparkly sequins and feather boas, a must-have for a budding Tutu Queen! I could just imagine me at that time, dreaming about becoming a Pink Tutu Queen. ?
- Pop Culture: You couldn't escape the magic of the "Spice Girls". In 1998, these girl-power superstars released their album "Spice World" which gave birth to some absolute classics: "Wannabe", "Say You'll Be There", and, of course, "Spice Up Your Life".
- Movie Mania: 1998 was the year "Titanic" swept the globe, both in terms of critical acclaim and commercial success, cementing James Cameron’s name in history. I still remember seeing the film with my friend and absolutely sobbing, my pink tutu held tight in the front row, tears rolling down my cheeks – truly a cinematic masterpiece.
- The world is watching: This date in 1998 also marked a pivotal moment in international news - the "Good Friday Agreement", a significant development for the peace process in Northern Ireland, was reached after a gruelling two years of negotiations.
- The Digital Age: And speaking of the news, this was a landmark year for online access. We had the internet, with its many opportunities for online fashion research, blogging (the future!), and even early versions of video sharing – oh how far we’ve come since those days!
This year was the time for fun, creativity, fashion, and an urge to explore and embrace the beauty of the world. Isn’t that what Pink Tutu blog posts are all about?
See you next Friday, darlings! And remember: Life is a beautiful ballet, twirl with grace and always remember the pink tutu magic! ?✨
