It's Friday 16th October 1998, the crisp air already carrying a hint of autumn. The train journey from my home in Derbyshire was an absolute delight, you know me - I adore the rhythm of the tracks, the swaying carriage, and the endless view through the window. Plus, it's the perfect opportunity to put on a touch of pink lipstick and let the creative juices flow. My tutu, of course, is a vibrant pink swirl that complements the changing colours of the leaves outside.
Arriving at London Paddington station, I was immediately transported into a world of vibrant energy. It’s a world I always adore exploring, even when dressed in my flamboyant best. Every time I'm in London, it feels like stepping into a magical ballet of my own.
Morning: A London Market Romance
The first stop on my Friday itinerary? Portobello Road Market! It's an absolute must-visit for anyone in love with fashion and quirky charm. The market buzzed with life, the scent of fresh flowers mixing with the tantalizing aroma of street food. My eye immediately went to the most amazing vintage finds: silk scarves in a kaleidoscope of colours, delicate lace shawls, and the most dazzling brooches!
A little secret: the market's also a haven for vintage ballet costumes. I snagged a darling tulle skirt that will be perfect for a whimsical dance class, and even found a gorgeous set of vintage pointe shoes to add to my collection!
Afternoon: Ballet Delights and Royal Theatre Glamour
I knew this wouldn't be a proper London trip without experiencing some world-class ballet, so I booked tickets for "The Sleeping Beauty" at the Royal Opera House! Oh, the sheer elegance of it all! I swear the Royal Ballet Company dancers were gliding across the stage with such ethereal grace.
From the magnificent costumes to the captivating music, everything about the show transported me to a fairytale land. Even the beautiful velvet seats felt like I was seated upon a cloud of wonder. As the final curtain fell, a round of thunderous applause filled the grand hall. It was a ballet performance for the ages!
Evening: The Magic of the West End
After my ballet rendezvous, the energy of London’s West End theatre district drew me in like a moth to a flame. Of course, a walk down Piccadilly couldn’t be complete without stopping at Liberty, my favourite shop. I admit, it's a bit of a shopping spree-in-the-making whenever I’m here! The intricate fabrics, luxurious gowns, and, yes, a glorious selection of pink delights – everything was irresistible!
Speaking of captivating stories, I then wandered into the theatre to catch a glimpse of “Les Misérables.” I am such a fan of Victor Hugo’s “Les Miserables” and his character Jean Valjean. I couldn't resist the opportunity to witness the heart-wrenching power of the musical and the stunning artistry of the cast. This night was already so full of theatrical brilliance, it truly was the icing on the cake.

And so, another wonderful Friday in London comes to a close. This city always captivates my imagination. It's brimming with history, energy, and the perfect backdrop for dancing in your finest tutu.
