Pink Tutu Blog London: Post #120 - Friday 1998-12-18: A Whirlwind of Pink Through London Town!

Hello darlings! Welcome back to Pink Tutu Blog London. It's a bit chilly today, the first snowflakes of winter are twirling through the air like tiny little ballerinas. But that doesn't dampen my spirit, oh no, because today I'm off on another whirlwind adventure through the exciting streets of London!

It's Friday, and you know what that means... time for another London escapade, a dash of glitter and a generous dollop of pink!

Now, you might be wondering how I afford these fabulous London adventures. Well, it's all thanks to the magic of dance! I'm lucky enough to get paid for my performances – and let me tell you, there's nothing quite like twirling onto a stage in my pink tutu, feeling the music fill me up and the spotlight shining bright. Every pirouette is a step closer to another thrilling trip to the Big Smoke.

Speaking of trips, I arrived in London bright and early this morning. The journey on the train from Derbyshire was smooth and breezy – always a delight. There's nothing quite like the rhythm of the rails, watching the world whiz by and sketching my adventures in my little notebook (it's always in pink, of course). I find train travel truly inspirational. The countryside rushing past always sets my imagination on fire!

As the train pulled into King's Cross, I felt a familiar tingle of excitement. The London air was a heady cocktail of bus fumes, sweet pastry scents, and a sprinkle of winter magic.

This time I'm staying in the heart of the theatre district, just a hop, skip and jump from the Royal Opera House. This is a pink tutu girl's paradise! You can feel the buzz of anticipation, the whispered anticipation of something spectacular. I'm like a child in a candy store – it's almost impossible to pick what to do first!

First things first, though: shopping! There's no trip to London complete without a spot of retail therapy, especially with Christmas around the corner. The streets are aglow with twinkling lights and festive displays. I spotted a fabulous pink Christmas tree outside Liberty's department store, of course! The air is alive with carolers, street performers, and the tinkling of shop bells – and everywhere I look there are amazing, inspiring sights! I can't resist adding a few festive baubles to my pink tutu collection – every dancer needs a touch of festive flair, you know.

After a little retail adventure (a pink tutu deserves new accessories!) I’m treating myself to afternoon tea. Tea and ballet go hand-in-hand. What's a ballerina to do without a pot of tea and some lovely finger sandwiches?! My teapot was all decked out in Christmas garlands – it even had a tiny little Santa hat on the spout! And of course, there was a plate full of delicious pink macarons, perfect for indulging my sweet tooth!

Later this evening, I have a very special treat: the premiere of “The Nutcracker” at the Royal Opera House. This is the biggest and most dazzling ballet of the year, with every dancer shimmering in gorgeous costumes – I am positively bursting with anticipation. The entire evening feels magical – the twinkling lights of the theatre, the anticipation buzzing in the air, and the murmur of conversations about the show to come. Then, the curtain rises, and the whole world explodes in a cascade of light, colour and exquisite movement.

Oh my, it was absolutely magical! The Sugar Plum Fairy was stunning in her shimmering gown, and the mice and toy soldiers were so enchanting – every step felt like a dream. My eyes just wouldn't stop taking it all in, every turn, every jump, every beautiful pose filled me with a joy that was simply boundless. This is what I love about ballet, it always takes you away on a magical journey!

My feet may be tired, but my heart is full. The magical, magical night is now drawing to a close and I'm ready to settle into my hotel. The city lights sparkle outside, and I can hear the murmur of the city drifting in from the streets. I’m in a daze of sugar plum fantasies, a heady mix of joy and excitement.

What else could a pink tutu girl ask for? It's truly a dream come true! But my adventure isn't over yet… I have another treat lined up tomorrow – I’m going to join a masterclass at the English National Ballet school, it's always such an inspiration to see all these talented young dancers stretching and twirling their way to greatness!

Tune in next week for another dazzling Pink Tutu Blog London update! Until then, keep your spirits bright, your hearts full of dreams and your tutus ready to twirl!

Stay glamorous!

Love, Emma
