Pink Tutu Blog London: Post #121 – Christmas Day Adventures in the Big Smoke!

Dearest Tutu-loving friends,

Ahoy from London! Yes, I've finally made it to the capital, all thanks to a fabulous performance at a lovely Derbyshire stately home this week. I must confess, even I couldn't resist the call of a pink tutu-clad ballerina to the city that never sleeps, so here I am, embracing the hustle and bustle of the Big Smoke with a heart full of festive cheer.

Now, I know some of you might be thinking, “Christmas Day in London? Surely she's mad!" But, darling, this wasn't just any ordinary Christmas Day. I've got to say, this particular Christmas feels even more magical than usual because… well… let’s just say my heart's fluttering with a different sort of excitement, shall we?

It’s not just about the festive spirit in London – though I will say that this year, the decorations seem even more dazzling than before. It's more about this feeling… the feeling of discovering something truly enchanting in this amazing city. And it all began with a delightful journey, wouldn’t you agree?

A Fairy-Tale Train Ride

Forget the boring old train to the city – I'm talking about an actual fairytale train journey! Let's be honest, any journey is better with a sprinkle of pink tulle, wouldn't you agree? Especially one involving the wonderful Intercity East Coast railway. I must say, I was in a right flutter when I saw that beautiful cherry red carriage - and with those soft, plush seats and enough space to spread out my tutu, it was absolutely dreamy. Honestly, it felt like a film set. You could just imagine me as a glamorous ballerina about to step off the train for an extravagant premiere, right?

Honestly, it was like the railway company knew a certain ballerina would be aboard this week, and they just had to give her a proper show! And let’s just say, when you’ve got the backdrop of those glorious, picturesque English landscapes rushing past the window, you've got yourself a real magical experience. You know me - I'm all about embracing the beautiful and, well, this train ride felt downright fabulous!

The Charm of London's Festive Spirit

So, as the sun was beginning to set, I arrived in the heart of London and instantly, I was embraced by this magical festive aura! I knew I had to experience London in all its Christmas Day glory. Now, let’s be honest – who can resist a spot of window-shopping when the whole city is adorned with sparkly decorations?

My first stop was the iconic Oxford Street. Oh, those window displays – simply breathtaking! From a dazzling spectacle of pink, fluffy candy canes at Selfridges, to the shimmering wonderland at Liberty – each one more extravagant than the last! Honestly, it was like a visual feast for the senses! You can bet your bottom dollar I stopped to admire them all, even when I found myself sandwiched in a sea of eager shoppers! But don't you worry - my trusty umbrella came in handy!

After the glorious sensory overload of Oxford Street, it was time to explore the rest of London's festive beauty. From the majestic Buckingham Palace adorned with twinkling fairy lights, to the romantic views of Westminster and the Thames all lit up with that festive sparkle – every corner of London was beaming with festive charm. I even had to stop and snap some pics, for Instagram of course, because when you find yourself surrounded by all that beauty – you have to share it with your tutu-loving followers!

Afternoon Tea and London's Best Ballet Boutique

What’s a London adventure without a spot of afternoon tea? It's absolutely non-negotiable! And speaking of traditions, I'm definitely sticking with my old favourite – Fortnum & Mason! The Christmas tea was everything I could’ve ever hoped for! All those dainty finger sandwiches, delightful scones, and that pot of hot, steaming tea. You can bet I savored every sip, each bite. Oh, and I can’t forget the festive treats! You know how I love a good cupcake… and Fortnum’s had a whole selection of Christmas-themed beauties. Now that’s what I call a perfect Christmas Day!

But London is calling! So, it was off to find London’s most wonderful ballet boutique. After some expert online research, I found the perfect spot - just tucked away on a quaint little street called Seven Dials. You’ll never guess what was inside this charming store… oh, the magic! Every single dancer's dream come true! Honestly, there was something to satisfy any dancer's heart: everything from gorgeous pink tutus to professional ballet shoes and stylish leotards. I can tell you, this is not just a shop. This is a wonderland for ballet enthusiasts, especially someone like me who happens to love pink, a little more than usual!

A Symphony of Lights and Dance

So, my adventure took me to the spectacular Christmas lights at Covent Garden. It’s a London tradition for a reason! Imagine: charming old cobbled streets all adorned with sparkling decorations, twinkling lights, and the sweet melodies of festive music swirling through the air! And guess what? There was a stage with live musical performances in the heart of Covent Garden!

This incredible spot is like a scene from a ballet itself! This little stage felt absolutely magical! Every night during the holidays, different talented performers from the dance scene are invited to perform – it was a perfect dose of artistic expression! You can just imagine how delighted I was with all this fabulous music and ballet performance! I must say, seeing dancers move in perfect harmony under those gorgeous decorations filled me with this incredible sense of warmth.

And it seems I wasn’t the only one feeling all the Christmas cheer – a young boy even came up to me after the performance and exclaimed: "You look so pretty! I’ve never seen someone in a pink tutu before!" You can bet I shared a sweet smile and a wave with him! The look on his face was absolutely priceless. That sweet moment solidified it for me - pink tutus are for everyone. Everyone deserves a bit of magic in their lives! You can just imagine how much I’ve got to get everyone wearing a pink tutu in their life. Maybe this whole adventure was all a prelude to some kind of fashion show? A pink tutu takeover? Hmmm….

Christmas Day at the London Eye

Of course, a trip to London is never complete without taking a trip on the iconic London Eye, and what better day than Christmas? So, off we went for a breathtaking ride with a panoramic view of the London skyline all decked out for Christmas. We saw those Christmas lights like a glittering river below! It was the perfect end to this truly special Christmas Day. The festive glow of the cityscape illuminated with an endless sea of sparkling lights. It was almost as though London was reflecting its own enchantment onto me, with this special sprinkle of magic.

And with that, my Christmas Day in London had come to a delightful close! What a spectacular whirlwind of sights, sounds and emotions! And with the memory of this Christmas Day still swirling through my mind, I bid you farewell! Remember to keep those dreams bright! Stay sparkling, you gorgeous lot!
