Oh darling, how do you do? It's your favourite pink tutu wearing, ballerina-in-the-making, Emma, reporting from London town! I just had the most magnificent weekend in this sprawling metropolis, and I am bubbling over with excitement to share all the pink-tastic adventures with you. This is, of course, post number 141 for my London blog – you can find them all at www.pink-tutu.com. I love posting on Fridays.
The week before was full of ballet performances at Derbyshire's lovely little theatre. Such a wonderful opportunity to show off a whole collection of my tutus. That's what keeps me going, funding my London adventures. It's such a thrill being part of a show, all the applause, the glitz, the costume changes. Nothing beats the feeling of that pink tutu swirling as I take centre stage.
Train to London: My Favourite Kind of Travel!
This time, I travelled by train from Derbyshire. Ah, the glorious freedom of the tracks! The rocking and swaying motion puts me right in the mood for a waltz, or maybe a beautiful plié. The journey itself is like a little ballet, especially with all the elegant ladies and gents on the train!
Speaking of elegant ladies… can we talk about this gorgeous pink floral print dress I found in a vintage shop in Derby? I couldn't resist - it's perfect for my London weekend. Pink, ruffles, and a touch of floral? It practically screams "London ballerina." I knew instantly that this was the perfect look for the British Museum.
Whirlwind of Pink at the British Museum!
Friday afternoon, I was practically pirouetting onto the steps of the British Museum. Did you know they have a lovely exhibit on ballet? Of course they do! London loves a good ballet show just as much as I do. This particular exhibit has some incredible sketches and costume designs from famous Russian ballet productions, and you can't forget about those fabulous pointe shoes! My toes started tingling just looking at them. It was all just so inspiring, like I was practically dancing through time with the ballerinas from another era!
And speaking of ballerinas...
Fashion Inspiration on Oxford Street
Did I tell you I'm a total shopaholic? Especially when I'm in London. It's hard not to be, especially when you have Oxford Street, that swirling kaleidoscope of colour and fabulous fashion! The best bit? I stumbled upon this darling boutique, full of all sorts of vintage and bespoke pieces. You know what that means… tutus galore! I'm absolutely giddy with glee just thinking about the new additions I found! (A sparkly hot pink tulle one with fluffy feathers was just irresistible. Can you picture me swirling around in that?)
The hunt for pink led me down a secret alley where I discovered the most enchanting cafe, overflowing with lace doilies, vintage teacups, and, of course, more tutus. It's my absolute new favourite place for afternoon tea in London! I had the most delicate lavender tea, dainty sandwiches with crusts cut off (it's a ballerina thing!), and a cake so pink it practically glowed in the light!
Dinner with a view
For dinner, I wandered down to Covent Garden – it’s bursting with so much creativity and buzz, it practically hums with energy. That energy was mirrored in the lovely little restaurant I discovered. It had this cosy little terrace with a view of the London skyline. The perfect setting for some fish and chips with a glass of prosecco. The view? I could see all of those gorgeous twinkling lights – my heart practically danced as the lights twinkled in my vision, a perfect end to a glorious day.
Ballet Magic!
The Saturday morning was all about catching the matinee at the Royal Opera House, naturally! It was such a beautiful performance. You really can't go to London without seeing a show in this amazing theater, it's so ornate, full of so much history. A bit like a fancy ball you’ve wandered into! And the ballet performance… so captivating! There were pirouettes, grand jetés, and even a pas de deux with the most magical footwork, sending shivers down my spine. You know me, anything with sparkles and swirling movement gets me going!
Afterwards, I went for a stroll through Hyde Park and felt like I had stepped into a fairytale! I even met a couple who stopped and asked if I’d pose for a photo, with my pink tutu. It turns out they were part of the 'Make London Pink' campaign. What a glorious coincidence!
Ending on a Pink Note!
Oh, and before I sign off – did you know it’s ‘pink champagne weekend’ this weekend?! What a fantastic excuse for a bubbly celebratory brunch with my dear friend Fiona, who came up to London to see me. We decided to share some strawberries and cream, champagne, and endless chatter on a park bench, feeling so much more alive than we ever had before! And let’s face it, London is just full of life!
So until next Friday, darling, stay tuned, because I’m always adding a touch of pink magic wherever I go.
Sending you all my pinkest wishes, Emma
