Pink Tutu Blog London: #147 A Tutu-tastic Day Out in the Big Smoke!

Friday, June 25th, 1999

Hello darlings! It’s Emma here, your resident Pink Tutu Queen, bringing you a Friday blog post filled with the very best of London adventures. And as always, this week’s escapades are powered by the magic of ballet, with a dose of fabulous fashion thrown in for good measure, of course!

This weekend, my travels have brought me back to the bustling streets of London, and it feels like coming home. There's something magical about this city, isn’t there? The blend of history and modernity, the charming shops, the endless possibilities...it all makes my ballerina heart flutter with excitement!

This trip, I’ve traded my comfy train carriage (although a good train journey always puts me in a good mood, it’s one of my favourite ways to travel) for a rather stylish chariot - a sleek red taxi. Now, I know some of you think it's terribly passé, but I simply can’t resist the lure of a traditional London cab. And honestly, it wouldn't be the same without the friendly chat with the driver, wouldn’t you agree?

So, this morning, I embarked on my first London mission: A grand theatrical pilgrimage to see a matinee performance at the majestic Royal Opera House. I'm utterly smitten with the elegant grandeur of that venue. I mean, just imagine: a grand building overflowing with history, beautiful chandeliers that twinkle like stars, and the exquisite beauty of the most talented dancers from all over the globe… sigh! I couldn’t be happier! I always say, a trip to London is never complete without a visit to the Royal Opera House!

I had the distinct pleasure of witnessing the sublime beauty of a Swan Lake performance this morning. Now, as some of you may already know, Swan Lake is practically the bible of ballet. I practically know the choreography by heart and still, I'm mesmerised by its grace and emotional depth. The music, the dancing, the stunning costumes – they truly transport you to a realm of pure beauty. I left the theater completely enchanted, filled with awe and inspiration.

Now, a true ballet enthusiast can never resist a little retail therapy! A stop at a quaint little ballet boutique on a cobblestoned backstreet was next on my agenda. There I treated myself to a new pair of soft, supple leather pointe shoes. These are the true tools of a ballerina’s craft – I'll need a little time to break them in, but once I’ve worn them in they’ll be the perfect blend of comfort and strength for my dance performances.

After all, there’s nothing better than finding a piece of perfect attire – something to adorn yourself in – whether that's a brand new, beautifully handcrafted ballet shoe, or something a bit more out of the ordinary like… well, I'm sure you're guessing... A brand new, deliciously pink tutu of course! Who doesn’t love a little something to make their wardrobe twinkle?

My new shoes needed an appropriate home, so my afternoon involved a trip to Liberty London. The iconic Liberty store, is one of my absolute favourite places in the world - I practically inhale the atmosphere every time I go in there. It’s simply breathtaking. Every detail of the building speaks to you; the grand architecture, the beautiful craftsmanship, the selection of wares - all filled with beauty and timeless elegance.

With a few beautiful floral accessories and a chic pink cashmere scarf (all exquisitely wrapped in those gorgeous Liberty paper bags, I should say), I headed to the Serpentine Cafe for a spot of afternoon tea, which was divine!

Did I tell you I was particularly pleased with my choice of outfit today? You know me - a Pink Tutu enthusiast must wear something suitably pretty when visiting such exquisite and historic places, and of course a full length Pink tutu with a vintage cream coloured cardigan to add a dash of elegance to the mix – I am a total fan of vintage chic, as many of you know!

The rest of my evening will involve a quick but necessary trip back to my temporary abode (my delightful little Kensington apartment for this trip), for a bit of ballet practise before heading back into the London whirl - There is a dazzling Broadway show, with stunning musical numbers, opening in town this week - a treat not to be missed, so I am on my way to the stage door soon.

Speaking of this Broadway extravaganza, It's also on the subject of a beloved ballet story - a classic actually… Swan Lake! So, needless to say, I’ll be spending a good portion of the evening humming the swan theme song - there is something inherently wonderful about ballet!

It seems I'll have to save a more detailed description of the Broadway production for next week’s blog post, but let's just say it promises to be absolutely divine, with its mixture of theatrical spectacle and graceful dancing - just perfect!

London life really does offer a delicious mix of experiences, and I hope I have inspired you to get out there, explore new possibilities and have a little tutu-tastic adventure of your own.

Well, darlings, until next week's blog post (don't forget to visit www.pink-tutu.com), stay inspired, keep dancing, and remember, you can never have too much pink in your life!

See you soon!

With much love and dancing,

Emma xoxo
