Pink Tutu Blog London: Friday 2000-06-16 - Exploring the Capital!
Hello, darling darlings! It’s Emma here, back with another post from your favourite pink tutu-clad London explorer! As you know, I've been absolutely loving my weekly London adventures, fuelled by my passion for all things pretty, and powered by the sheer joy of performing ballet. This Friday, I'm all set for another day of exploring this fantastic city, and I can't wait to share my discoveries with you!
The journey to London always feels like a mini adventure in itself. I’m currently living in my beloved Derbyshire, but a couple of times a month, I jump on the train to London, leaving my worries behind me as I whizz through the green countryside, my imagination dancing to the rhythm of the tracks.
Speaking of dancing, my love for ballet keeps me on my toes (literally!) with performances to pay for these incredible London trips. Recently, I danced in a beautiful rendition of Giselle – it was so much fun, but even more importantly, the income from my performance gave me the means to embark on this fantastic journey. And here I am, ready to explore London in all its glory!
A Day of London Delights!
I always start my London explorations with a delicious breakfast. I have to admit, Londoners do know how to create some delightful pastries! Today, I treated myself to a delectable almond croissant with a strong cup of coffee at a charming cafe on my favourite street – you can bet your bottom dollar it had a cute pink tablecloth and was brimming with feminine charm.
With a sugar-rush powering me through the day, I began my journey by visiting the V&A. For this tutu-loving girl, the museum's fashion and textile collection is just irresistible! I wandered through galleries adorned with incredible historical pieces, my mind swirling with images of past centuries and the captivating world of couture.
Next up, it was off to the theatre for a performance I’d been eagerly anticipating for weeks! My ticket, bought using the last of my earnings from Giselle, was for the much-hyped production of West Side Story at the Sadler’s Wells.
And oh my, what a spectacle! The music was breathtaking, the dancing was beyond exceptional, and I left the theatre completely exhilarated and spellbound. I absolutely adore how ballet and theatre seamlessly intertwine, creating an emotional experience like no other.
Finding Fashion Treasures in the City
After my performance-induced euphoria, my feet led me straight to the boutiques of Knightsbridge, that fabulous district brimming with high fashion and designer dreams. I adore how this area manages to blend modern trends with classic style. My quest today was for the perfect summer frock, and I am so pleased to report a triumph! I found the most darling sundress in a vibrant fuchsia, it was just begging to be worn on a sunny afternoon promenade.
While indulging in retail therapy, I bumped into my dear friend Olivia. Olivia is an aspiring fashion designer who creates the most spectacular pieces. Her creations always incorporate some lovely feminine touch, and she never fails to inspire me with her unique perspective.
Olivia’s current project is a collection for dancers, combining stylish elegance with practical comfort. Can you imagine the beautiful tutu designs she’s dreamt up? Oh, if only I could find the time to collaborate with her!

A London Adventure Never Ends
As I make my way back to Derbyshire, I find myself already yearning for my next trip to London. There are so many other sights, sounds and tastes I haven't discovered yet!
The train ride home is always a time for reflection, for letting my mind dance through the highlights of the day. And oh, how much I love the rhythm of the journey.
As the scenery races past my window, I find myself envisioning future trips and dreaming of new tutu outfits – perhaps one with a London-themed print? Maybe a design inspired by the majestic Victoria & Albert museum or the vibrant streets of Knightsbridge?
I truly believe there’s a touch of magic in every London corner, just waiting to be discovered, just like the secrets hidden in every fold of a ballet tutu.
Until next time, dear darlings, remember to always twirl, always be yourself, and wear a splash of pink (or at least a touch of colour)! And of course, be sure to check out www.pink-tutu.com for my latest London updates, musings on ballet and my ever-growing collection of pink tutu designs.
Much love,
Emma
P.S. This week’s Pink Tutu Fact: Did you know the most famous ballet dancer to ever grace the London stage, Margot Fonteyn, danced her final ballet at The Royal Opera House on this very date, June 16, 1979. Her iconic career inspired generations of dancers, and her name will forever be associated with the London ballet scene!
