Pink Tutu Blog: London Calling! 🩰🌸
#PinkTutuBlogLondon Friday 2001-01-12
Hello my darlings! It’s your favourite pink-tutu-clad ballerina, Emma, and guess what? I'm back in the magnificent city of London! I took the train up this morning – yes, it’s still my absolute favourite way to travel. It’s so much more glamorous than flying! Plus, there’s something wonderful about watching the countryside whizz by as you embark on your adventures. This week’s adventures are taking me to the capital to soak in some culture, indulge in some fashion finds, and maybe even sneak in a ballet class or two!
As I sit here writing this post from a rather charming cafe near Covent Garden, a gorgeous little boutique window full of blush pink fascinators caught my eye. Oh, how I wish I could wear one of those for today’s exciting outings! The sheer audacity of the feather and tulle creations – pure theatrical glamour, just how I like it! I can already picture myself in one, taking my spot in the Royal Opera House, maybe at a dress rehearsal… sighs wistfully.
But speaking of London, darling, I have to tell you – the city just exudes a kind of vibrant energy that truly gets me going. You can almost feel it bubbling up from the cobbled streets, overflowing into the parks, spilling into the theatres… there’s an electricity in the air! I absolutely love how there's something to find here for everyone, even for a little tutu-clad adventurer like myself!
Today’s adventure is all about embracing London’s charm – I plan on gracing a certain well-known shopping district with my presence – shall we call it a ‘tutu reconnaissance’ mission? – and then, my darling friends, there's a little something waiting for me at the National Theatre...
Stay tuned, because the day has just begun! 💖

Mid-day Fashionista 👠
Well, darlings, after an excellent cappuccino and croissant (that buttery flaky pastry… sigh!), it’s time to indulge in some shopping therapy! I’m on a mission today to uncover some fabulous finds that'll add a touch of pink, of course, and ballerina-esque whimsy to my wardrobe. This means heading straight to Oxford Street!
Walking down this famous street, with its charming Victorian architecture and endless stream of shoppers, I really felt that London spirit, you know? It’s all about taking in the sights, smelling the aromas from the shops, feeling the buzz around you, and of course, being captivated by all the beautiful, trendy, eye-catching window displays! I mean, it's all so very dramatic and just so me! 😉
My mission was simple: find pink items and items that could potentially transform my ballerina wardrobe. First stop: Topshop. You know, they really understand the young and fabulous woman on the go, always looking for the next big trend. A flash of pink tulle in the window display? A very subtle, soft, dusty pink jumper? There’s nothing quite like that satisfying feeling of unearthing a beautiful, perfectly pink garment in a sea of different hues and patterns, like finding a hidden gem in a treasure trove! 😉
Next, it was off to Liberty. I couldn’t resist, my darling, the whole place just calls to my soul! It's just dripping with beauty - the patterned textiles, the elegant mannequins, the beautiful glass domes! And oh my, that gorgeous floral scent hanging in the air. It’s almost as intoxicating as a performance at the Royal Opera House, just ask my fiancé (who is waiting patiently for my shopping expedition to finish… bless him).
I can’t disclose my discoveries yet – you’ll just have to wait for the Pink Tutu Blog London next week to see the haul!
On to the National!
After shopping myself dizzy, it was time to take in a little culture. My evening’s entertainment is waiting for me: the National Theatre!
Now, you see, darling, my passion for ballet is quite well known in these circles. When someone hears "ballet" they’ve probably already visualised me in my pink tutu, spinning effortlessly on the stage – it’s that deep a bond!
Well, a dear friend who works as a lighting technician for the National Theatre was kind enough to offer me a chance to see an up-and-coming production.
I have a soft spot for theatre and productions, of course. You’ve probably seen it – I have a full Ballet and Theatre Diary right here on the Pink Tutu Blog where I love to discuss upcoming shows, my own experiences attending events, and reviews of the performances! It really brings together my passion for performing and appreciating theatre!
London at Night! ✨
It’s that wonderful magical moment between day and night, with the twinkling lights beginning to cascade onto the streets, that I finally made it to the National.
The whole venue has such a wonderful sense of history – it really does feel like the building itself is bursting with artistic energy! My dear friend welcomed me and showed me around, even letting me in on the "behind-the-scenes" magic, which truly blew my mind. The technical skill required, the coordination… it's absolutely astonishing! They literally build worlds within the confines of the stage, transporting audiences to different realities – how utterly fascinating!
We chatted for a while before heading off to a little private gathering, which included a few fellow artists, directors, and technicians. It’s a great place to connect and learn, and the conversation was buzzing with excitement for new productions coming up and everyone’s hopes for a successful run. The artistic buzz is simply contagious!
As it's Friday night in London, there’s an electric energy hanging in the air – music spilling out from bars and clubs, laughter and chatter echoing in the streets… The London life truly has this exciting, always-happening feeling to it!
I know my friend planned to take me to a little post-show drinks and nibbles reception after the performance, and I am absolutely ready for some light banter and delicious wine. I mean, wouldn’t you agree that a few cheeky glasses of something sparkling is essential after experiencing such artistic brilliance?
I'll keep you posted on how it goes! 💖
