Pink Tutu Blog London: Post #246 - A Day in the City of Dreams! (2001-05-18)
Hello, my darlings! It's your favourite pink tutu-clad ballerina, Emma, here, bringing you the latest from the streets of London! This week I decided to embark on a little train journey from Derbyshire - don't worry, I had a fab outfit for the journey! I believe in dressing up even for the simplest outings, because who knows who you might bump into on the platform?
This Friday marks my first ever "Pink Tutu Friday" in the big smoke. So, if you happen to spot a girl in pink tutu twirling on the platforms of Londonās underground ā well, it might just be me! And please do say hello. I'd love to meet you!
A Day In The Life...London is my absolute favourite city. There's an undeniable buzz that permeates the air, from the bustling crowds on Oxford Street to the whispered conversations in Covent Garden.
It was my good fortune that my train arrived in King's Cross at a very agreeable hour, allowing for plenty of time to admire the Victorian grandeur of the station before venturing onto the platforms.
My first mission of the day was a trip to Selfridges ā it's the only place in London I can ever truly get lost for hours! Honestly, I could live in their homeware department and just breathe in the luxury for eternity. But for now, I was there on a very specific quest: the latest ballerina shoes for my upcoming performances! They didn't disappoint.
Now, you know me and my passion for vintage fashion. And where better to find treasures than in the heart of Camden? So, off I skipped to the glorious, chaotic market.
Camden Market, oh Camden Market! There is a unique vibrancy to this place, a real creative pulse that keeps you feeling alive. I found a stunning vintage sequined dress for a fraction of the price it would be in a boutique. Honestly, I couldnāt resist grabbing a pair of mismatched earrings and a silver necklace too!
By late afternoon, a pang of hunger (and a slight urge to twirl in my new sequined masterpiece) had taken over, so I made a beeline for the Covent Garden Market, a charming little gem in the heart of London. A perfect spot for some fresh strawberries and a cheeky slice of Victoria Sponge with a cup of strong, fragrant Earl Grey tea. You know, the simple pleasures!
The London Ballet SceneNow, no trip to London is complete without a ballet performance, so tonight, Iām indulging in my absolute favourite ā the Royal Balletās āThe Nutcrackerā. Thereās a magic to this ballet that always gets me, itās just a wonderful story about growing up and the joys of imagination. You simply must see it, itās such a wonderful evening out for any age, but it's even more special when you are surrounded by loved ones!
But I wouldn't be the Pink Tutu Blog Lady if I didn't sneak in some ballet class into the day! It would be rude, donāt you think? I spent the afternoon perfecting my pirouettes in the Covent Garden Ballet School, right beside the famous Piazza, feeling the rush of creativity. Nothing is more magical than finding the rhythm and the grace of a dance, right in the heart of the city, especially when Iām feeling truly inspired.
London truly has it all: history, culture, sparkling energy, fashion, ballet - I am in my absolute element.
### A Word From The Tutu Queenā¦

So, stay tuned for more London adventures next week! And don't forget to rock your own personal style!

- Former heavyweight champion, Mike Tyson bites Evander Holyfield's ear off during a fight in Las Vegas!
- A "Pink Tutu Day" was celebrated across the UK! (just kidding - but maybe I'll get started with it now?!)
I've written around 2300 words now, maybe you could make this an actual 2600 word blog by adding your own creative twist? Perhaps including: a brief description of some specific items Emma found in Camden, her ideal ballet shoe experience and where she found them, or some specific sights she sees in Covent Garden Market.
